Core Assembly information

What is core assembly?

Core assembly refers to the process of constructing the core components used in manufacturing, most commonly in foundries for metal casting. Workers in core assembly build sand or ceramic cores and molds that shape the internal cavities of metal parts during casting. The job requires attention to detail, precision, and knowledge of safety procedures to ensure quality and consistency in the final products. Core assembly is essential in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and machinery manufacturing. Technicians often use hand tools, machines, and specialized adhesives or coatings as part of the assembly process.

What are some common challenges faced in a core assembly role and how can they be overcome?

Core Assembly professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining high precision under tight deadlines and adapting to frequent changes in production schedules. Ensuring quality while assembling intricate components requires strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards. Effective communication with team members and cross-department collaboration can help resolve issues quickly and minimize downtime. Continuous learning and staying updated on new assembly techniques or equipment can also help overcome these challenges and enhance job performance.

What is the difference between Core Assembly vs Machinist?

AspectCore AssemblyMachinist
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent; some certifications in assembly or manufacturingHigh school diploma; technical certifications or apprenticeships often preferred
Work EnvironmentFactories, assembly lines, manufacturing plantsMachine shops, manufacturing facilities, workshops
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, electronics manufacturingMetalworking, aerospace, automotive industries

Core Assembly involves assembling components into finished products, focusing on precision and following detailed instructions. Machinists operate and maintain machine tools to produce metal parts, requiring technical skills and knowledge of machining processes. While both roles are essential in manufacturing, Core Assembly emphasizes assembling parts, whereas Machinists focus on creating parts through machining processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a core assembly worker?

To thrive as a Core Assembly worker, you need manual dexterity, attention to detail, basic mechanical aptitude, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with assembly line tools, blueprints, and quality control systems is typically required, and some positions may prefer certifications in manufacturing or safety. Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills help individuals excel in fast-paced production environments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring efficient, accurate, and safe assembly of components, directly impacting product quality and operational productivity.

Job description

About H3X Technologies

H3X is building America's advanced electric motor company, powering next-generation platforms in aerospace, defense, and marine. Our integrated motor drives deliver 12+ kW/kg, roughly 3x the power density of competing solutions. We're now scaling to megawatt-class systems, with customers working on everything from supersonic aircraft to turbine power generation for AI datacenters.

Our team brings together engineers and operators from aerospace, defense, and motorsports, with deep expertise in electric machines, power electronics, material science, and advanced manufacturing. We're a small, fast-moving team doing hard engineering that matters, and we're looking for people who want to do the best work of their careers alongside us.

About the role

We are looking to hire an Assembly Technician who will assist in the manufacturing of prototype electric drive systems and facilitate testing. You should be experienced with standard mechanical system assembly and troubleshooting hardware. You will be a key part of the core engineering team and will have a direct impact on the trajectory of the company.

What you will do:

  • Assemble production motor drive systems and sub-systems.

  • Handle, mix and work with process chemicals and hazardous materials.

  • Assist in maintenance and upkeep of production processing equipment.

  • Read, comprehend and perform technical processes as defined by internal work instructions, standards, or other specifications.

  • Coordinate with manufacturing & design engineers regarding assembly process issues and improvements.

What we are looking for:

  • High intelligence, high energy, and high integrity.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years of hands-on mechanical system experience in the following areas:

    • Fastening

    • Epoxy application

    • Component fabrication

    • Wiring harness manufacturing

  • Proficiency in comprehending and improving manufacturing processes.

  • Able to troubleshoot assembly issues.

  • Able to conceptualize assembly processes from CAD models.

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator to effectively share knowledge and build the collective mindshare of the company.

  • Organized and obsessive attention to detail: no room for oversight when making flight critical systems.

  • Humble and open-minded: willingness to accept feedback, learn, and consistently improve upon yourself and the products for which you will be responsible.

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner.

  • Fundamentally curious and motivated my first principles.

  • This position requires access to CUI/ITAR/EAR controlled information.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience assembling flight qualified aerospace parts.

  • Experience with the following skillsets: Brazing, Soldering, Milling, Turning, Epoxy encapsulation.

  • Experience with PCB assembly and wire harnessing.

  • Experience developing novel manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with GD&T standards (e.g. ASME Y14.5)

  • Experience with AS9100 supply chain practices.

  • Experience with tool calibration processes.

  • Associates or technical trade degree.

Why H3X

Joining H3X means working on hard, meaningful problems with a skunkworks-style team that's laser-focused on building exceptional products. We're deeply vertically integrated and have a very tight design-build-test loop, which lets us move from concept to hardware at unmatched speed. We've gone from idea to shipping product in less than two months.

We're a small, highly skilled team where everyone carries real responsibility and shares an extreme ownership mentality. We stay focused on the critical path, keep bureaucracy to a minimum, and structure everything around delivering results. You'll learn and grow faster here than you would anywhere else.

You'll work alongside world-class engineers and builders who are pioneering electric motor technology at scale on some of the coolest programs in the industry, from supersonic aircraft to power generation for AI datacenters. If you want your contributions to be visible and your work to directly shape American reindustrialization, you'll feel at home here.

Compensation

  • Hourly Compensation Range: $22.00/hour - $34.00/hour
