Team Overview

As a Copywriter at ADF, you are a vital part of the Creative Services & Brand Team. In this role, you will report to the Managing Editor and are responsible for writing and shaping content to meet ADF's fundraising and advocacy objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write compelling, action-oriented marketing and fundraising materials to advance the strategic priorities of ADF across digital and print channels, including email, web, ads, direct mail, and more.
  • Act as a frontline brand manager by shaping the audience's perception of ADF through written content.
  • Write in a conversational, simple, concrete, and personally engaging manner — quickly answering why readers should care about something or how it affects them.
  • Craft, review, and shape content, including emails, commentary, reports, resources, and other content to meet advocacy, fundraising, and communication objectives.
  • Stay up to date on new developments and trends in fundraising and marketing communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, philanthropy, nonprofit leadership or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in internet marketing and/or copywriting for web.
  • Strong fundraising, marketing, creative, and persuasive writing skills.
  • Skilled in taking complex information and boiling it down to powerful, engaging content that motivates people to act.
  • Understanding of writing principles and techniques for fundraising and marketing writing (including strong headlines, the use of hyperlinks, multimedia, calls to action, and other digital and search engine optimization (SEO) elements).
  • Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively, problem solve, take initiative, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy, website Content Management Systems (CMS), and working knowledge of basic HTML elements preferred.
  • Advanced experience in fundraising copywriting preferred, including email, digital, direct mail, major donor experience or experience writing foundation proposals or reports.

Pay & Benefits

At Alliance Defending Freedom, we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package to support your well-being and growth. While we do not disclose specific salary ranges, our compensation is competitive with top non-profit law firms. Our benefits include 100% covered medical and dental insurance, medical and dependent care reimbursement, paid disability, long-term care, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with a 4% company match.
