Job description

Position Summary
The BIM Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining Building Information Models (BIM) for audiovisual (AV), security, and structured cabling systems across interior commercial and mission-critical projects. This role ensures accurate model development, clash coordination, and alignment with project requirements, construction schedules, and industry standards. The BIM Coordinator works closely with engineering, project management, field teams, and external stakeholders to support successful project execution from design through installation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and maintain BIM models for AV, security, low-voltage, and structured cabling systems using Revit and related BIM tools.
  • Coordinate system layouts including pathways, device locations, racks, headend rooms, and equipment elevations.
  • Perform clash detection and spatial coordination with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings and resolve conflicts in collaboration with internal and external project teams.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents, shop drawings, and installation-ready layouts.
  • Maintain model accuracy throughout all project phases, incorporating approved changes and as-built conditions.
  • Support mission-critical projects by ensuring compliance with redundancy, separation, clearance, and uptime requirements.
  • Assist with constructability reviews to support efficient field installation.
  • Maintain company BIM standards, templates, and workflows for AV, security, and structured cabling systems.
  • Ensure models comply with client standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes.
  • Perform quality control checks on models and drawings prior to issue.
  • Work closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and field supervisors to align models with scope and installation intent.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, general contractors, and trade partners as needed.
  • Provide technical BIM support to project teams and assist with training on BIM processes when required.
  • Combine 3D models from different groups into a single federated project model.
  • Find and fix physical conflicts between structural, architectural, and MEP systems before building starts.
  • Make sure all teams follow the project's BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and naming rules.
  • Help coworkers and partners use BIM software correctly and solve technical problems.
  • Lead regular coordination updates with builders and designers to talk about changes and fix design problems.
  • Work with subcontractors for initial model creation, as-builts and implement changes from change orders, RFIs and meeting minutes into the model.
  • Work with Data Center engineering team and Project Managers to ensure project completion within standards and on schedule.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of BIM coordination experience, preferably within AV, security, low-voltage, or structured cabling environments.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit; working knowledge of Navisworks, Solibri, or Archicad.
  • Strong understanding of AV, security, and low-voltage systems, including pathways, device placement, and headend design.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting mission-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare facilities, control rooms, or government facilities.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and construction document management platforms.
  • Knowledge of BIM execution plans (BEPs) and industry standards.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, multi-project environments.
