Warehouse Cooler Associate

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state's largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In addition to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response. Monday-Friday 06:00am-2:30pm

Position Purpose of Warehouse Cooler Associate: The Warehouse Associate will predominantly work in the cooler area. Including tasks such as: load and unload shipments, put away finished production inventory, fulfill orders from cooler area, execute smooth receipt when receiving product, inventory, replenish product in pick bins, and order fulfillment with accuracy in all activity. The associate will also be responsible for moving trailers in and out of dock doors and refilling fuel for the refrigerated trailers. The Cooler Associate will work with other staff on a daily basis to include, cooler needs for AIB and janitorial needs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners' mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential Functions of Warehouse Cooler Associate:

  • Perform various warehouse functions including product receipt, loading and unloading of semis and box trucks, put-away, replenishment, order-fulfillment (by both case and pallet quantities), prepare product for distribution (including wrapping pallets and labeling orders), and ship product to final customer.
  • Take direction as indicated by multiple sources: document, scanner or other instruction.
  • Keep your work station clean and log all cleaning performed in the AIB binders.
  • Identify good vs. bad produce.
  • Work safely and accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Change tasks and assignments as the needs of our Distribution Center require.
  • Operate PIT equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience of Warehouse Cooler Associate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and experience performing warehouse functions (safety procedures, product receipt, put-away, replenishment, inventory, order-fulfillment and shipment, etc.) preferred

Other Relevant Skills and Abilities of the Warehouse Cooler Associate:

  • Ability to read, write and to understand instructions
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all staff members, agencies, volunteers, and donors
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, to count accurately and maintain accurate records
  • Understands warehouse inventory
  • Be accountable and meet deadlines on a consistent basis
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to execute instructions with exacting (100% compliance) attention to detail
  • Forklift certification (or ability to be certified)
