The Director of Logistics is responsible for managing all aspects of the delivered customer freight program (US and Canada). Duties include direct oversight and management of carrier selection (fleet and asset based), contracts, freight rate negotiation, carrier performance, load/route assignments, customs clearance (Canada), P&L/margin management, and monthly purchase order reconciliation and accruals.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops and manages overall logistics strategy for Bonita Packing that optimizes freight revenues and product offerings while enhancing margin and customer satisfaction
  • Establish and maintain dedicated contract carrier network to include carrier selection, contract management, and freight rate negotiations based on market conditions and contract timeframe
  • Works in conjunction with Sales to build and manage value-added customer delivered freight programs
  • Directly accountable for monthly freight rate adjustments and forward-looking financial forecasts to include market rate conditions, diesel price index, and truck availability/capacity
  • Manage all aspects of the customer-delivery freight program by managing carrier assignments based on freight rate, route, performance, resources needed, and delivery expectations
  • Direct accountability and company point of contact for all Canada bound shipments and paperwork. This will include managing customs clearance, working directly with customs brokers, and ensuring all delivered loads maintain proper clearance and paperwork
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities to deliver superior service
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in all aspects of refrigerated transportation from shipping point to delivered customer location in US and/or Canada.
  • Experience must include direct oversight of carrier selection (asset based), contracts, freight rate negotiation by lane, and carrier performance scorecards
  • Senior level management experience with strong leadership acumen and proven track record
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all team members (internal and external)
  • Delivered freight management experience for multi-site blue chip retail and foodservice customers
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation and safety regulations (FMCA, USDOT, CALDOT, FSMA)
  • Expertise in routing and scheduling deliveries to ensure operational efficiency and optimal transit times
  • Highly organized, with a problem‑solving mindset and the drive to go above and beyond to find solutions
  • Strong understanding of financial metrics including cost analysis, budgeting, and financial forecasting
  • Ability to interpret data, analyze trends, and make informed decisions that support company goals

  • Technical Skills: Intermediate computer skills including the MS office suite of programs. Ability to analyze financial results and develop ROI information on projects. Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Strong ability to analyze complex situations and develop/recommend solutions. Knowledge of supply chain tools, forecasting processes in sales, marketing operations, finance, manufacturing and supply chain issues. Prior experience with distribution management tools like Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Trade Management, MRP, DRP a plus.
