Job description

Summary A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park's existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to oversee all conversion-related activities for all Skyhawks games and events at Gateway Center Arena. Essential Functions Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, as well as interpret precedents.

This position is responsible for providing operations oversight and collaborating with a variety of departments to meet the operational end goals for events and clients by providing world-class service and hospitality for the Gateway Arena. Manage all employees and labor subcontractors responsible for the daily building operations of the facility and the process of assembly and dismantling for all events held at Gateway Center Arena. Works in tandem with the other department managers on all matters to maintain a cohesive department through management and communication.

Manage and oversee departmental subcontractors, vendors, payroll, staffing, and purchase orders while maintaining a working relationship with vendors and service providers. Supervise and coordinate team members in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all physical features inherent to the movable seating systems, basketball flooring, and rolling stages while maintaining a safe work environment for patrons, workers, and team members. Maintain daily reports of labor and project costs to ensure budget events.

Review schedules, audits, operations, and inspection reports, equipment specifications, parts, and material inventories and costs to maximize the effectiveness of the department. Maintain responsibility for records, tools, and equipment inventory to ensure that department-related equipment is regularly and properly maintained while establishing or following the preventative maintenance plan. Develops techniques for work method simplification, improving working conditions and safety, reducing costs, and communication to adjust and refine the conversion process.

Performs thorough verification that all systems, set up, and installations are safe for patrons, workers, and team members through arena checklists and walk-throughs. Key point of contact for all operational equipment moves and building operations deliveries while managing the logistics for transportation of equipment to off-site warehouse, Skyhawks Practice Facility, and equipment shipments. Works with the Event Services department to ensure proper setup and troubleshoots any problems or deficiencies.

Works with the Building Services department to perform preventative maintenance tasks and provide any assistance on building operations projects. Works with third-party vendors to ensure the Arena's main floor is ready and clean following conversions and any event needs. Coordinate all 24/7 work order management system tasks for the department and ensure tasks are completed to proper standards.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of safety equipment, standards, systems, and OSHA guidelines.

Must have a proven track record of managing and leading a large-scale facility operation with a diverse workforce. Knowledge of departmental and City operating policies, procedures, and rules. Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as required.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinates and effectively and efficiently accomplish division objectives. Thorough knowledge of contracts and other agreements related to the rental of the Gateway Arena. Knowledge of laws and regulations about public assembly facilities, public safety rules and regulations, and building regulations.

Proven effective management of multiple related areas. Proficient with Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word. Demonstrated sound organizational, coordinating, and personal interface skills.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to successfully communicate with the public, other employees, and vendors. Must be flexible with working nights, weekends, and holidays. Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to motivate staff utilizing a positive attitude.

Knowledge of principles of budget preparation and control. Ability to handle difficult customers. Must be able to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.

Must be able to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships to deal effectively and courteously with others, and to work independently and in team settings. Must be able to type or use a personal computer with word processing and related software and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy.

Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.

Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment are extremely important, as well as dependability. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability. Moderate physical activity.

Requires handling objects of heavy weight up to fifty (100) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business management, sports management, marketing, public relations, business administration, hospitality, or other related field. Minimum of five (5) years 5 years of experience in conversion and/or building operations, preferably with a sports facility, convention center, or other multi-purpose public assembly facility; Equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver's license.

Strong organizational and communication skills. Experience in communicating with diverse communities and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times. Pre-employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
