Job Summary:

Manages achievement of department sales and profits using acceptable business practices. Provides leadership of department personnel. Maintains convenience store conditions and monitors gas levels. Provides excellent customer service by maintaining a clean shopping environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining partners; scheduling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Reviews historical data to predict future sales from ads and promotions. Manages inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in-stock levels. Reviews profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data; provides verbal or written summary to upper management regarding any related issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving sales performance, financial results, public relations, product quality, and work standards.
  • Checks inventory on trucks, unloads products, and ensures accuracy of inventory, product ordering, and associated paperwork.
  • Monitors full stock conditions on display racks and shelves and orders product as necessary. Ensures dated product is stocked, rotated, or discarded properly if unsold.
  • Accountable for adhering to all local, state, and federal laws regarding sales of restricted items such as tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis-based products.
  • Ensures accurate checkout totals for customers by properly scanning and keying items. Maintains accurate money count in register at all times.
  • Remains current on tender policies and procedures related to checks, credit, debit, coupons, EBT, WIC, AML, etc.
  • Ensures customer and fuel pump safety by monitoring, reporting, and taking action regarding suspicious activities, illegal devices, emergencies, fires and fuel spills. Inspects fuel pumps, ensures proper seals are in place, and maintains hazard free conditions.
  • Provides friendly and customer service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and assisting customers with fuel pumps and product location.
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
  • Operates pallet jack to unload product from warehouse trucks and reloads trucks with return items
  • Promotes product sales through use of suggestive selling initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of scheduling software systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of in-store ordering machine and inventory management processes.
  • Intermediate knowledge and compliance of state laws regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and lottery, as applicable.
  • Intermediate knowledge of cash register.
  • Intermediate knowledge of tender policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic Microsoft Office functions.
  • Ability to operate a manual or electric pallet jack.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • High school Diploma or GED and two or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • TABC/LACT/AATC certification required where applicable.
  • Fuel Operator C training required.

Physical Demands:

  • Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.
  • Continuously required to stand or walk.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
  • Frequently required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel or squat.
  • Attendance at work is required.
