Position: Director, Consulting Services (Controller Background)

Schedule: Full-Time, Mโ€“F | Hybrid
Location: Nashville, TN
Compensation: $120,000โ€“$150,000 + bonus

About the Role

NOW CFO is seeking a Director-level leader with a strong accounting background to oversee consulting engagements and develop high-performing teams. This role balances hands-on Controller-level expertise with people leadership and engagement oversight, ensuring exceptional client outcomes and profitable, well-run projects.

The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, can step into complex client situations with confidence, and excels at mentoring consultants while maintaining accountability to timelines, deliverables, and financial results.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee consulting engagements across multiple clients and industries
  • Provide Controller-level accounting leadership, including financial reporting, close, GAAP compliance, and risk management
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop consultants, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and performance
  • Partner with client leadership to deliver financial insights, process improvements, and strategic guidance
  • Ensure engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and profitably
  • Identify risks, implement controls, and optimize processes and systems
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients while supporting relationship growth and repeat business

Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • CPA preferred; MBA a plus
  • 7+ years of experience at the Controller level, ideally with consulting or multi-client exposure
  • Strong GAAP, financial reporting, and close process expertise
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements in fast-paced, changing environments
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with various ERP systems
  • Strong communication skills, high integrity, and a client-first mindset
