The Opportunity
Join the Memphis Grizzlies as the Controller, responsible for managing the daily operations of the accounting team. This role manages core accounting activities, supports basketball and business operations, and provides financial insight that helps senior leaders make informed decisions.
You will connect with teams across the organization and engage with league finance partners to improve workflows and support shared financial goals. This role suits a leader who values partnership, clear communication, and steady execution.
In This Role You Will
  • Manage general accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, etc.
  • Review and approve monthly reconciliations.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP.
  • Oversee revenue recognition and invoicing of corporate sponsor contracts, as well as other revenue partners.
  • Manage monthly financial close process.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end financial statements, footnotes, and analytical reviews for parent company and subsidiaries.
  • Manage the annual financial statement audit.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and suggest remediation as needed.
  • Assist in automation initiatives/projects of daily operations.
  • Support preparation of NBA league reporting and related audits.
  • Manage accounting software (fiscal and calendar year-end procedures).
  • Provide consultative support to the annual budget process and quarterly forecasts.
  • Provide financial support to departments, as required.
  • Oversee reconciliations of complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Hire, coach, mentor and supervise accounting staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Experience You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA designation.
  • At least eight (8) years' accounting/auditing experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience leading Finance or Accounting teams.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 proficiency, including Excel.
  • Experienced user of ERP / Accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar.
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and collaboratively with non-financial colleagues.
  • Ability to use technology and automation to enhance reporting and maximize efficiency.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously while handling conflicting deadlines.

Nice to Have:
  • Public accounting experience preferably with a Big4 or regional firm.
  • Professional sports industry finance/accounting experience.
  • Experience with AI accounting solutions.
  • Experience in implementing ERP and ancillary financial systems.
  • Experience with PowerBI.
