Job description

A publicly traded company in Nashville is undergoing a significant operational transformation and needs an Assistant Controller. You will own the close process, lead an ERP implementation, and build out controls—working with a Controller who mentors, not micromanages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the month/quarter/year-end close process (reconciliations, financial statements, compliance).

  • Lead the ERP implementation (planning, integration, adoption).

  • Assess, rebuild, and enforce internal controls and SOX compliance.

  • Oversee AP/AR, focusing on automation and process improvement.

  • Manage, train, and develop the Staff Accountant team.

  • Identify and execute cross-functional process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience owning most or all of the month-end close process.

  • Hands-on operational familiarity with AP/AR.

  • Experience in a public company setting (SOX, external reporting, audit-ready close).

  • Prior involvement in an ERP implementation (any system, any phase).

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is a plus.

Why this Role:

The company is in the middle of a transformation—new ERP, tightening controls, and building process maturity. This is an opportunity to write the playbook, not just follow it. The Controller offers coaching and is committed to developing the next layer of leadership.

Compensation & Location:

  • Base salary up to $165,000 (depending on experience).

  • Annual performance bonus.

  • Onsite role in Nashville with flexibility to manage your schedule.
