Controls Engineer
Remote (Must reside within a 2-hour radius of Valparaiso, Indiana)
Regular travel to customer sites as required

We are a growing engineering company specializing in industrial boiler and combustion systems. Our team designs, develops, and supports highly engineered solutions for customers across a range of industrial markets. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a talented Controls Engineer to join our engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PLC programmer with strong electrical knowledge who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers, and contributing to innovative industrial control solutions.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, programming, commissioning, and support of control systems used in industrial boiler applications. You will join a collaborative engineering team of three and play a key role in delivering projects from concept through startup.
The ideal candidate combines strong PLC programming expertise with a solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and field commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC-based control systems for industrial boiler and combustion equipment
- Program, test, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and related control hardware
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and technical documentation
- Support system commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities at customer facilities
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and customers to ensure successful project execution
- Provide technical support for installed systems and assist with system upgrades and improvements
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and safety requirements
- Assist in the continuous improvement of controls standards and engineering processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of PLC programming experience in an industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, and instrumentation
- Experience reading and creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control system issues both remotely and onsite
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
- Must reside within a 2-hour commute of Valparaiso, Indiana
Preferred
- Experience with industrial boiler, combustion, burner management, or process heating systems
- Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLCs and FactoryTalk products
- Familiarity with Siemens PLC platforms
- Knowledge of VFDs, motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial networking
- Experience with UL, NFPA, and industrial safety standards
- Field commissioning and startup experience
