Director of Print Operations and Fulfillment

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director of Print and Fulfillment Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for all print notification and fulfillment functions. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence by overseeing production performance, financial outcomes, staffing optimization, and vendor relationships. While the position primarily manages a centralized operation, it may require oversight of multiple locations and extended shifts on a project basis. The director serves as the organization's expert on common carrier processes, cost structures, and shipping strategies, enabling effective pricing and sales support. Additionally, this role leads the integration and advancement of related technology systems, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters strong partnerships with internal teams and external vendors to support organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all print notification and fulfillment operational functions to ensure operational excellence, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient staff and coaches/counsels as appropriate with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitors operations and staff and recommends, when necessary, changes in methods, procedures, structures and additions or changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources.
  • Responsible for the oversight and management of financial forecasting and P&L performance with a focus on cost containment and achievement of financial targets for print notification and fulfillment operations.
  • Manages the operational relationships for all print notification and fulfillment operational vendors and integrates new vendors as required or appropriate.
  • Provides guidance to multiple teams regarding capabilities and limitations for print notification, fulfillment and vendor utilized systems.
  • Actively participates in the development of and provides business sponsorship for all related IT systems.
  • Leads the organization in knowledge concerning common carrier (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.) contractual obligations, capabilities, limitations, packaging requirements, ancillary costs, shipping costs, additional fee and discount structures in order to develop and provide real-time and accurate pricing strategies so that the Sales and Pricing teams are able to execute their duties effectively.
  • Works with team to effectively deploy staff within and beyond assigned areas. Works with other leaders to flex staff and actively monitors internal staffing levels to determine temporary and full-time resource needs.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with vendors, staff, peers, leadership and other business stakeholders
  • Understands and can articulate customs and border patrol impacts to shipping and receiving in North America.
  • Assists with facility, safety, security, and maintenance operations.
  • Actively participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travels as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.
  • Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations.
  • Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree in business or logistics from an accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

Ten (10) years of management experience in a print operations and/or fulfillment and logistics environment or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in multi-carrier shipping, common carrier shipping, 3rd party logistics, pharmaceutical or consumer products or other relevant recall (or reverse logistics) related industry.

Skills & Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of logistics and common carrier processes (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.), including packaging requirements, shipping costs, ancillary fees, discount structures, and customs/border considerations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to provide direction in addressing difficult issues; influence others to implemented needed changes
  • Proficiency in financial management, including forecasting, budgeting, and P&L oversight with a focus on cost containment.
  • Ability to identify problems and make sound decisions after considering all the facts, potential risks, and customer needs
  • Ability to manage own time, activities, and resources by identifying specific activities required to accomplish objectives, ranking them in order of importance, and coordinating and taking action to achieve desired results
  • Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner including the ability to listen to others and respond effectively to ideas and questions
    Working knowledge of printing equipment, envelope inserters and sealers
  • Extensive knowledge of vendor software including integrations with 3rd party print partner and shipping partners
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Analytical and interpretive skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
