Job description

Medical Payment Posting Specialist

Location: Remote (Must work Central Time Zone hours)

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday (Fixed 8-hour shift. Choose from: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CT, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM CT, or 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM CT)

State Restrictions: We can't hire out of CA, CO, or NY

Equipment provided: Laptop, 2 monitors, keyboard, mouse, docking station


Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and high-efficiency Medical Payment Posting Specialist to join our growing revenue cycle team. In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely entry of insurance payments, patient payments, and contractual adjustments.

This position requires a sharp analytical mind capable of handling complex account reconciliations and navigating the nuances of medical billing. Please note: Prior experience specifically within healthcare payment posting and hands-on NextGen EMR proficiency are strict requirements for this role.


Key Responsibilities
  • High-Volume Payment Posting: Accurately post medical payments, contractual allowances, and denials using NextGen EMR.
  • Batch & Line-Item Processing: Efficiently handle both line-item and batch posting workflows across a diverse portfolio of payers.
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform regular account reviews and financial reconciliation to ensure credits, balances, and accounts are 100% accurate.
  • Payer Communication: Proactively contact insurance payers to track down and retrieve missing electronic (ERA) or paper (EOB) remits.
  • Claim Review: Utilize and interpret both CMS-1500 and UB-04 claim forms to ensure proper payment application.
  • Efficiency & Volume: Maintain high speed and precision while managing a heavy workload of 1,500+ transactions per day.

Requirements & Qualifications
Strictly Required:
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of dedicated experience in medical billing payment posting. Due to the specialized nature of this role, candidates from outside the healthcare industry (such as general banking or standard accounting) cannot be considered.
  • EMR Proficiency: Hands-on experience with NextGen is required, including both manual posting and utilizing importing/automated posting features.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and electronic remits. Proven experience with manual posting and financial reconciliation.
  • Analytical Capabilities: Strong data entry skills balanced with the critical thinking needed for complex account reconciliation and denial identification.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Medi-Cal claims and payment posting guidelines is a strong plus.
