This role works  closely with Operations partners across multiple sites to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient performance—while continuously improving how we work. Based at our worksite daily, you'll have a front-row seat as our infrastructure projects develop and come to life.

General Responsibilities:

  • Follow safe work practices by completing hazard assessments (SHA/JHA/FLHA), participating in site inspections, and supporting up-to-date safety and operating documentation (e.g., OERPs, SJPs, SWPs, ERPs, SOPs).
  • Operate, monitor, adjust, and control district energy systems to maintain safe, efficient performance and meet regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements.
  • Monitor plant and field equipment on-site and via SCADA to verify proper operation and identify abnormal conditions early.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain equipment in district energy facilities, underground distribution piping, and energy transfer stations across multiple sites.
  • Complete preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical and operational equipment.
  • Track performance against targets, investigate issues, take corrective action, and suggest opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Identify, communicate, and help mitigate operational risks to prevent injury, equipment damage, service interruptions, and financial loss.
  • Keep accurate records by completing maintenance logs and entering work details in the CMMS.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (plant interior/exterior, control room, vehicles) that meets site expectations.
  • Support facility tours as requested and clearly explain equipment, systems, and operating processes to visitors and stakeholders.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency response and act as a first responder to operational call-outs, as required.
  • Take on other related responsibilities as needed to support safe, reliable operations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Hands-on understanding of boiler, chiller, cooling tower, and instrumentation basics.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and control systems, with the ability to support troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret distribution maps, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools safely and correctly.
  • Able to record measurements accurately and apply basic arithmetic.
  • Able to respond effectively to emergencies—stay calm, follow procedures, make timely decisions, and communicate clearly.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment (e.g., boilers, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, piping, and fittings) required.
  • Working knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and basic OSHA requirements required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • HVAC system experience preferred.
  • SCADA/HMI experience preferred.
  • Controls and instrumentation experience preferred.
  • Basic First Aid training/certification preferred.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in plant and field environments around large equipment.
  • Exposure to water, chemicals, electricity, dust, grease, oil, fumes, hazardous materials, and noise.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions, as required.
  • Physical demands include lifting/moving up to 60 lbs, prolonged standing, and climbing.
  • Use PPE as required (e.g., hard hat, safety-toe footwear, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection) and follow applicable safety requirements.
  • Rotating shifts.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation and scheduled overtime, as required.
