Reporting to the Area Manager and is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation systems. Ensures work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company and industry standards.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Lead and perform instrumentation installation and tubing on oil and gas compressor packages.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, instrument datasheets, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook-up drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Install, route, bend, cut, support, and connect stainless-steel instrument tubing.
  • Install and connect pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration, and other process instrumentation.
  • Install instrument manifolds, valves, regulators, gauges, transmitters, switches, and pneumatic components.
  • Perform instrument air tubing installation and pneumatic connections.
  • Verify tubing routes, supports, fittings, and connections for proper installation and workmanship.
  • Perform pressure and leak testing of instrument tubing and connections.
  • Assist with instrument calibration, loop checks, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation installation issues and assist with diagnosing instrument and control problems.
  • Work closely with Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, and Engineering teams during installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Verify instruments and components against P&IDs, datasheets, material lists, and project specifications.
  • Identify incorrect, damaged, or missing components and communicate issues to supervision or engineering.
  • Lead and coordinate instrumentation fitting activities within assigned work areas.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and direction to Intermediate and Junior Instrumentation Fitters.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure proper installation, tubing routing, labeling, support, and workmanship.
  • Support compressor package startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of installation, testing, inspections, and modifications.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety policies, project requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Follow and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and other safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Communicate work progress, material needs, installation issues, and schedule concerns to supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills and Experience
Your education and experience include:
  • 5+ years of instrumentation fitting or industrial instrumentation experience preferred.
  • Oil and gas, compressor package, rotating equipment, or industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, instrument datasheets, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong experience with stainless-steel instrument tubing, compression fittings, manifolds, valves, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong knowledge of pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration, and other process instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting instrument calibration, loop checks, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation installation and tubing issues.
  • Ability to use tubing tools, hand tools, measuring equipment, and testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices in an industrial or oil and gas environment.
  • Ability to lead, train, and mentor less-experienced instrumentation fitters.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established procedures.

Physical Strain

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, tubing, fittings, and instrumentation components.
  • Ability to work around machinery and compressor equipment.
  • Ability to work in a shop or industrial environment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow all safety requirements.
