Job description

Design Engineer
The Design Engineer is responsible for the execution of all facets ofdesign engineering projects in support of Magnetic Seal throughout the productlifecycle. From concept design throughproduction, the Design Engineer works collaboratively with all businessfunctions to ensure a successful product launch to meet our customer'sdemanding sealing needs.
This key project owner will manage all daily tasks within theengineering services through the assigned Engineering, ManufacturingEngineering and technical support resources, which range from customer productinquiries, which initiate the product development process to any existinglegacy application issues from our installed customer base. This role will also personally own and manageassigned key initiatives within the business operations by supporting various functionswith product material inquires, manufacturing challenges, quality processes,and evolving supply chain developments.
This will be onsite role at our Warren, Rhode Island facility.

Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.
Our Facility in Warren, RI is responsible forengineering and manufacturing some of the world's most advanced sealingsolutions.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the design, development, implementation and analysis of mechanical rotary face seals primarily used in the secondary power systems for the aerospace industry and other adjacent markets.
- Responsible for 3D modeling, drawing creation, reverse engineering, FEA Simulation Analysis, and component selection.
- Develops and executes test plans as required, including test rig design, operation and data collection as necessary.
- Evaluates our products, parts, procedures and processes for effectivity and reliability.
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Perform field evaluations and reports of returned products to assess performance and identify issues.
- Interacts with other departments, customers and suppliers as required
- Review and verify customer contracts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with contractual terms and internal requirements.
- Provides engineering, manufacturing and project management support.
- Recommend & implement process and product changes in support of internal & external customer(s)
- Prepares data-driven engineering reports for internal and external customers as needed.
- Candidate follows in house engineering processes and will assist in the creation and improvement of companywide process documentation.
- Attend industry trade shows and events to network, gather market insights, and identify opportunities for product development and business growth.
- Responsible for storing and handling all Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) appropriately to prevent unauthorized access, dissemination, or use of this information or documentation.
- Support all visitor and security policies to protect ITAR/EAR/CMMC/CUI information, documents, product, etc. from unauthorized access by informing management immediately of any concerns.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in employee's work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular and acceptable attendance is an essential function of this job.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experienced in 3D modeling and conducting FEA using SolidWorks or an equivalent system, is highly desirable.
- Computer skills to include all Microsoft Office applications, engineering CAD (SolidWorks), FEA/FMEA, project/time management software such as Outlook for effective time management.
- Experience in the testing of mechanical rotary face seals or other mechanical equipment is highly desirable.
- Position will offer unique and complex engineering challenges that require persistence, original thinking and a positive attitude.
- Familiar with a variety of sealing concepts, practices, and procedures.
- General knowledge or working experience of gearboxes, transmissions and accessories is desirable.
- Knowledge of AS9100 and ITAR regulations preferred.
- Able to rely on process instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Possess high self-motivation, persistent drive and takes the initiative to realize goals and objectives.
- Organized with emphasis on attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and navigate software programs, run reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities timely and efficiently.
- Strong verbal, written, and interactive communication skills with all levels of employees, management, and business partners.
- Team oriented
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate internal procedures and policies.
- Local to the Rhode Island facility.
Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in a related field, which is directly applicable to the field of mechanical seals.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand and walk frequently and sit continuously.
- Able to drive occasionally.
- Able to bend, squat and kneel occasionally.
- Able to reach outward and reach above shoulder occasionally.
- Able to use fine manipulation continuously.
- Able to read and write in English.
- Able to push/pull and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Visual Acuity - Able to see close detail, distance and colors constantly.
- May come into contact with chemicals.
Other Physical Requirements:
- Use of basic hand tools for building, setup, adjustments, and maintenance of Test Rigs and other engineering equipment.
Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:
- Office environment and light manufacturing environment which is climate controlled.
- Test Lab environment with exposure to moderate noise, vibration, oil-mist, and temperature variations.
- Able to work onsite per business needs and per employee's standard hours.
- Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Ability to travel occasionally.

This position requires access toexport-controlled information and/or hardware, and candidates must be U.S.Persons that comply with all U.S. Export control laws and regulation. As such,U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent resident status, protected personstatus under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or the ability to meet ITAR and EARrequirements is required.
Depending on the candidate's skills,qualifications and experience, they will be hired into an entry (I) level,intermediate (II) level or advanced (III) level job.
