Job Responsibilities
The Stagehand provides technical support for performances, rentals, rehearsals, and special events at Harbison Theatre @ Midlands Technical college. It is a 400-seat performing arts venue that welcomes artist from all over the world and right here locally as well. This position assists with the setup, operation, and strike of productions while maintaining a safe, professional, and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, follows directions well, has a strong work ethic, and is eager to learn theatrical production skills.
This position will be located on the Midlands Technical College Harbison Campus
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, work from elevated platforms, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in dimly lit backstage environments and occasionally outdoors.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on event needs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively under the direction of supervisors.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional appearance, positive attitude, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion while working with performers, touring productions, rental clients, and guests.
  • Willingness to learn theatrical production systems, including lighting, audio, rigging, and stage equipment, through on-the-job training.
  • Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service to artists, patrons, clients, vendors, volunteers, and fellow employees.
