Job Description:

L3Harris Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. The company offers a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, tactical and advanced hypersonic propulsion.

This Mechanical Engineer position will focus on component and system design tasks for Solid Propulsion Systems, be expected to be an intermediate professional with practical knowledge of design concepts, have a basic understanding of design approaches, and be capable of supporting multiple design activities.

Under moderate supervision, the applicant is expected to do the following: Investigate and support recommendations for design factors such as ease of manufacture, inspect-ability, availability of materials and equipment, strength-weight optimization, design to contractual specification and cost requirements. Perform mathematical calculations and tolerance analysis per engineering specifications. Support alternative design solutions to problems and obstacles. Support checking of engineering product definition for compliance and conformity to established company standards, specifications, and design directives.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs professional assignments requiring a working knowledge of application of concepts, practices, and techniques.
  • Explain and interpret operational processes, practices and procedures of the job area to others within the organization.
  • Problem solving by drawing from prior experiences and/or standard procedures and basic examination.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Prepares and maintains Creo 10.0 CAD drawings and models of simple to moderate complexity within Windchill PLM System. Capable of managing simple to moderate CAD assemblies and engineering Bill of Materials.
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior Mechanical Design experience; or a Graduate Degree or equivalent with 2 years of prior Mechanical Design experience; or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior Mechanical Design experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with CAD software tools (CREO), and PLM Systems (Windchill) is desired.
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of solid propulsion systems design and manufacturing methods is a desired.
  • Engineering drawing and GD&T application experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
