Contract Unity Game Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Unity Game Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Unity Game Developer, you need strong proficiency in C#, Unity engine workflows, and experience developing and deploying games across platforms, usually backed by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), asset management tools, and integrating APIs or SDKs is commonly required. Effective communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are essential soft skills for collaborating remotely and delivering on diverse client requirements. Mastering these skills ensures high-quality, timely game development and fosters productive client relationships in a competitive contract environment.

What are Contract Unity Game Developers?

Contract Unity Game Developers are professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to design, develop, and implement games or interactive experiences using the Unity engine. They work with studios or clients to create gameplay mechanics, visual elements, and software architecture, often collaborating with artists and designers. Unlike full-time employees, contract developers typically work on specific projects or for a set duration, providing flexibility for both the developer and the employer.

What is the difference between Contract Unity Game Developer vs Contract Unreal Engine Developer?

AspectContract Unity Game DeveloperContract Unreal Engine Developer
Required CredentialsExperience with Unity, C# programming, portfolio of Unity projectsExperience with Unreal Engine, C++/Blueprints, portfolio of Unreal projects
Work EnvironmentGame studios, freelance projects, mobile and indie developmentAAA and high-end game development, VR/AR projects, simulation
Employer & Industry UsageWidely used in mobile, indie, and casual gaming sectorsPopular in AAA titles, VR, and simulation industries

Both roles require strong knowledge of their respective engines and programming languages. While they share similar credentials and work environments, Unity developers often focus on mobile and indie projects, whereas Unreal developers are more involved in high-end, AAA, and VR projects. The choice depends on the project scope and industry focus.

What are some common challenges Contract Unity Game Developers face when joining new projects?

Contract Unity Game Developers often encounter challenges such as quickly understanding the existing codebase, adapting to varying project workflows, and integrating seamlessly with remote or distributed teams. Since contractors typically join projects mid-development, they must efficiently onboard, communicate proactively with permanent staff, and adapt to different coding standards or tools. Strong documentation skills and the ability to ask clarifying questions are essential for overcoming these hurdles and contributing effectively from day one.

Job description

Parallelz is building a novel technology platform that enables new ways of delivering, discovering, and extending mobile applications, in ways that were never thought possible. We allow developers to transform existing mobile apps into web-native apps that can run anywhere, all without a walled garden app store, and without any modifications to their code.

Parallelz is an AI-native company. We are not a team that experiments with AI on the side. AI tools and agentic systems are how we design, build, debug, review, ship, and operate. We are actively rethinking how engineering teams work in a world where every engineer is paired with capable agents, and we are building that culture from the ground floor.

You will be getting in at a pivotal stage, contributing to the technical roadmap, helping shape an AI-first engineering culture, and working in a small, flat organization to evolve our R&D initiatives into a live, scaled operational platform that will have an impact across the industry.

Our founding team and advisors are serial entrepreneurs and technologists from Google, Mozilla, MIT Media Labs, and other top organizations. The company is backed by top-tier global venture funds and angel investors.

About the Role

We are looking for a versatile Software Engineer to join our platform team, working directly alongside our Platform Lead. You are a strong all-around engineer who has spent the last few years operating across backend services and infrastructure, and who can take an idea from concept to a fully deployed, production-ready application. You have done time in both larger engineering organizations and earlier-stage startups, and you bring the discipline of one with the velocity of the other.

You see AI and agentic systems as a force multiplier on judgment, velocity, and quality, and you are looking for a team that takes that seriously. You want to drive change rather than wait for direction, and you are energized by the chance to help define what an AI-first platform team looks like in practice.

What You'll Do

Own features end-to-end, from idea through design, implementation, deployment, and operation, leveraging agentic workflows to compress the path from concept to production.

  • Build and operate backend services and the cloud infrastructure they run on, fluent across the application and platform layers.
  • Stand up and maintain deployment paths on cloud infrastructure, with or without leaning on managed services, and shape the networking, load balancing, and connective tissue between services.
  • Design AI-first systems and developer workflows, embedding agents, LLM tooling, and automation into how the platform team architects, ships, and operates.
  • Partner with the Platform Lead to identify pain points across engineering and ship platform improvements that compound over time.
  • Work natively with AI coding agents and tooling (Claude Code, Cursor, agentic workflows, custom internal agents) to accelerate research, prototyping, code generation, debugging, and review, treating these tools as a junior pair you direct and verify, not a passenger.

Requirements

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants to operate broadly across the stack, take real ownership, and help define what AI-first platform engineering looks like at Parallelz.

Must-Haves
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience across large organizations or earlier-stage startups, with demonstrated range across backend development and infrastructure, and a track record of taking ideas from concept to fully deployed applications.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider, including the ability to deploy and operate applications with or without managed services, and a solid foundation in infrastructure, networking, and load balancing.
  • Working knowledge of Go, high-availability and scalable system design, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar), Kubernetes, and modern monitoring and telemetry stacks (Prometheus or equivalent).
  • Daily fluency with AI coding agents and LLM tooling, with a clear point of view on where they help, where they fail, and how to verify their output. You actively adopt agentic workflows and look for opportunities to bring them deeper into how the team builds.
  • A bias toward driving change and strong cross-functional collaboration. You look for opportunities to improve how the team operates and communicate clearly in a hybrid, async-first environment.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or operating production systems across more than one cloud provider.
  • Background in developer tooling, internal platforms, or improving developer experience at scale.
  • Unity or broader gaming ecosystem experience.

Benefits

  • Group Retirement Savings Plan matching and participation
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision), including Health and Wellness spending account
  • Generous time off policies
  • Access to leading AI tools and platforms
