TITLE: English as a Second Language Teacher - High School
QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education with licensure in the area of ML. Bachelor's degree. Experience working with young children. English and Spanish proficiency preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services / Building Principal
JOB GOAL: Provides instruction, assesses and encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment in order to assist students in achieving educational objectives. Contributes to the overall vision and mission of the corporation.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues.
    1. Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students and parents.
    2. Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies.
    3. Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
    4. Maintains confidentiality of students' information and students' records
    5. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  2. Complies with the school system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
    1. Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
    2. Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
    3. Is punctual.
    4. Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher.
    5. Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
    6. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings (MTSS) and activities according to school policy.
    7. Complies with conditions as stated in contract.

    2. Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
    3. Implements designated curriculum and individualized learning plans (ILPs).
  4. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  5. Provides instruction and assesses student progress. Teaches at an appropriate instructional level that is differentiated to meet individualized learning objectives.

  8. Acts as a coach to ML Teachers of Records, TOR, K-12 by modeling strategies and providing resources and support
  9. Assign schedules and supervise ML Instructional Assistants.
  10. Supervise the ML Family Liaison.
  11. Assign professional development to the TORs who will administer the ACCESS (WIDA) test annually
  12. Creates Individual Learning Plans, ILPs, for students in the ML program
  13. Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and as part of an interdisciplinary team with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  14. Assists parents in understanding the language needs of their child and how they can assist in meeting the child's goals.
  15. Demonstrates knowledge of federal and state legislation pertaining to Multilanguage Learners and Title III.
  16. Maintains appropriate records and files.
  17. Monitors data for Title III and monitors student progress data.
  18. Aligns ML standards (WIDA) to grade level/subject area standards and supports the implementation of such standards.
  19. Provide translation and/or interpretation for conferences and parent communication.
  20. Coordinates and facilitates WiDA ACCESS (or equivalent) testing yearly.
  21. Screen kindergarteners and new student within 30 days of starting school.
  22. Work closely with the Director of Special Services in order to plan and implement professional development, parent involvement activities, and serves as the chair of the ML Leadership Committee.
  23. Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services or the building principals.
  24. Assist with ML Exit Criteria and Good Cause Exemptions.
