Job description

Job Title: Stringer Operator Trainee

Job Description

The Stringer Operator Trainee will learn to operate highly automated stringer equipment that assembles solar cells by running string through multiple cells and soldering them together for placement on solar panel frames. You will begin by working closely with an experienced operator, gradually taking full ownership of the machine, monitoring material supply, reviewing automated quality checks, and visually inspecting finished product. As you grow in the role, you are expected to increase your productivity and performance to meet and exceed the output of the current workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Train alongside an experienced operator to learn the complete operation of the stringer machine and related equipment.
  • Monitor the supply of string or thread in the system to ensure the machine does not run out of material during operation.
  • Observe the machineโ€™s automated quality checks displayed on a large monitor and interpret the information accurately.
  • Visually inspect solar cell strings after the cells are assembled to determine whether they meet quality standards or need to be set aside for repair.
  • Stop the machine every two hours for approximately 30 minutes to perform general cleaning and basic upkeep of the equipment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and cleanliness requirements within the manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to protect sensitive solar cell components and support efficient production.
  • Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and pride in workmanship to ensure high-quality output.
  • Collaborate with team members and trainers to continuously improve machine performance and production output.
  • Adapt to a rotating schedule and be willing to work both day and night shifts as assigned, including weekends on the 3-2-2-3 schedule.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience as a machine operator or CNC operator, or operating other computer-controlled machinery.
  • Ability to learn and operate a fully automated stringer machine used in solar cell manufacturing.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate visual inspections of small components.
  • Capability to monitor multiple processes simultaneously and respond quickly to issues such as low material supply.
  • Reliability and a strong sense of ownership, with genuine care about work quality and outcomes.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with trainers, supervisors, and team members.
  • Willingness and ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating 3-2-2-3 schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and perform routine cleaning and light maintenance tasks on the machine.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any prior experience operating CNC or other computer-controlled machines is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in general labor or general production work within a manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort working with automated systems and large display monitors for process and quality monitoring.
  • Demonstrated initiative, energy, and the ability to stay focused and engaged throughout long shifts.
  • Strong work ethic and pride in craftsmanship, with a commitment to meeting production and quality targets.

Why Work Here?

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity designed for individuals seeking a long-term career in a growing, high-tech manufacturing environment. The facility is brand new, with state-of-the-art, highly automated equipment and only half of the building currently in operation, leaving significant room for expansion. Additional production lines are being added in the near future, creating substantial opportunities for advancement and promotion as the team grows and the operation scales. Team members benefit from a structured schedule that provides regular three-day weekends every other week, along with the option to pick up extra shifts for additional hours. The culture emphasizes growth, learning, and internal mobility, offering motivated individuals a clear path to build a stable and rewarding career.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, brand new, and very clean manufacturing facility designed for solar cell production. The environment is highly automated, with all equipment and machinery being new and technologically advanced. Due to the sensitivity of solar cells, some areas require wearing hair nets and beard nets for those with facial hair, and closed-toe shoes are mandatory throughout the facility. The schedule follows a 3-2-2-3 pattern, where one week consists of approximately 35 hours and the following week approximately 48 hours, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts every other week and a three-day weekend on alternating weeks. Day shifts run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., and night shifts run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., with both day and night positions available.
