Job description

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), U.S. Virgin Islands (Relocation) | Correctional Behavioral Health

Reference: 01CLFCT009

Location: St. Croix (Kingshill) and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; on-site at a correctional facility (one position on each island)

Employment Type: Full-time with benefits (W-2)

Compensation: $90,000 to $115,000 annual, commensurate with experience

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8-hour shifts or 4-day 10-hour shifts as assigned; Atlantic Standard Time

Agency Environment: Territorial correctional healthcare: contracted clinical staffing supporting the medical division of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections; clinical scheduling and supervision by the Government Medical Director and Health Service Administrator

Position Overview

CLF Consultants LLC seeks Licensed Clinical Social Workers for full-time correctional behavioral health positions with the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections on St. Croix and St. Thomas. These roles carry the behavioral health caseload at the heart of the facility mental health program: assessment, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and the documentation that drives safe housing and treatment decisions.

The successful candidate is a licensed clinician with the judgment to manage high-risk presentations, the writing discipline to produce reports that hold up in clinical and custody review, and the interpersonal range to work daily with patients, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, corrections officers, attorneys, and probation officers. Mainland candidates receive relocation assistance and full Virgin Islands licensure support.

Relocation candidates are welcomed nationwide; existing Virgin Islands ties are not required to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intakes, evaluations, and assessments for referred patients
  • Diagnose and provide ongoing assessment, treatment planning, and psychotherapy, including suicide and homicide risk intervention and management for high-risk individuals
  • Provide individual counseling, group sessions, and crisis interventions for patients with mental illness, behavioral concerns, and developmental impairment
  • Write diagnostic reports, treatment plans, recommendations, and progress reports, including for patients in special management or on mental health lockdown status
  • Coordinate and link patients to psychiatric prescribers for medication evaluation and re-evaluation
  • Provide consultation to corrections officers and healthcare staff regarding behavior and safety concerns
  • Provide mental health crisis intervention support for agency personnel
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records under HIPAA and facility policy, and coordinate with attorneys, probation officers, and outside professionals for continuity of care

Required Qualifications

  • Active clinical social work licensure in the U.S. Virgin Islands, or active U.S. licensure (LCSW or jurisdiction equivalent) with eligibility for Virgin Islands licensure (CLFC supports the application; VI licensure must be completed before start)
  • Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Minimum 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience including psychotherapy and crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated competence in suicide risk assessment and safety planning
  • Strong clinical documentation skills
  • Ability to pass facility security clearance and background screening

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Correctional, forensic, inpatient psychiatric, or community crisis experience
  • Group therapy facilitation experience
  • Experience serving Caribbean or island communities; cultural fluency with USVI populations
  • Certification or training in trauma-informed care, CBT, or DBT
  • Existing ties to the U.S. Virgin Islands

Why Practice in the U.S. Virgin Islands

  • No passport required: the U.S. Virgin Islands is a U.S. territory, so U.S. citizens travel with a standard government ID.
  • U.S. licensure standards and a U.S. dollar economy, with CLFC support for Virgin Islands licensure by endorsement (typically 4 to 8 weeks).
  • Caribbean island lifestyle on St. Croix or St. Thomas: year-round climate, beaches, and a close-knit community.
  • Mission-driven work serving a medically underserved population where your clinical judgment has direct impact.
  • Relocation and licensure support so the move is straightforward, not a hurdle.

Compensation and Engagement Details

  • Annual salary range: $90,000 to $115,000 (W-2 full-time with benefits)
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holiday schedule
  • 401(k) with employer match, eligible after 90 days of employment
  • Relocation assistance provided as a stipend (not a repayable loan) for qualified mainland candidates
  • Virgin Islands licensure application support provided by CLFC, with licensure fees reimbursed
  • Defined 40-hour schedule supporting clinical depth without productivity-quota pressure
  • Multi-year contract potential aligned with the contract base term and renewal structure
  • Housing assistance or stipend to offset island cost of living
  • Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) reflecting the U.S. Virgin Islands market
  • Annual continuing education (CME/CEU) allowance and licensure renewal support
