Job description

The Senior Surveyor plays a critical role in supporting and advancing heavy civil construction projects by delivering accurate surveying services while leading, developing, and scaling the survey function to meet organizational goals. This role combines technical excellence, field leadership, and strategic thinking, with responsibility for building high-performing teams, standardizing practices, and supporting growth across projects and regions.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of progressive surveying experience in heavy civil construction, a strong understanding of construction operations, and a demonstrated ability to mentor survey staff, grow teams, and align survey services with project and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform and oversee surveying activities for heavy civil projects, including roads, bridges, utilities, earthwork, and structures

Ensure accuracy and compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and regulatory requirements

· Review and interpret plans, specifications, and control data to support construction layout and verification

· Coordinate survey activities with construction teams, engineers, subcontractors, and project managers

· Utilize best practices for data collection, processing, quality control, and as-built documentation

· Foster a safety-focused, collaborative, and high-performance team culture

· Follow safety standards and ensure survey activities comply with company and regulatory safety requirements

· Conduct quality reviews to ensure survey data meets accuracy and documentation standards

· Support audits, inspections, and issue resolution related to construction surveying.

Required Qualifications:

· 5+ years of experience in surveying within heavy civil construction or comparable infrastructure environments

· Strong knowledge of construction surveying principles, methods, and equipment

· Experience leading field crews or teams, with demonstrated leadership skills

· Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and industry-standard software

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and control networks

· Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

· Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure or progression toward licensure

· Experience helping shape the growth, structure, and strategic direction of a survey department within a growing organization

The hourly rate for this role will be $39-45 depending on experience.
