Contract Rfic Design Engineer information

What is the salary of RFIC layout engineer?

The salary of an RFIC layout engineer typically ranges from $80,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Senior engineers with specialized skills in RF circuit design and layout may earn higher compensation, often supplemented with bonuses and benefits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract RFIC Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract RFIC Design Engineer, you need expertise in RF/microwave circuit design, semiconductor physics, and familiarity with industry standards, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Mastery of EDA tools like Cadence, ADS, and experience with simulation and layout software are critical, along with knowledge of relevant test equipment. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication set top engineers apart in collaborative and deadline-driven environments. These skills ensure the delivery of high-performance, reliable RFIC solutions that meet project specifications and industry demands.

What is the highest salary for an RF engineer?

The highest salaries for RF design engineers can exceed $150,000 annually, especially for those with extensive experience, advanced skills in RF circuit design, and certifications. Senior RF engineers working in high-demand industries or in managerial roles may earn even higher compensation, often supplemented with bonuses and benefits.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

A Contract RFIC Design Engineer typically does not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are more common in executive, senior management, or specialized roles in technology and finance industries. Top-tier engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills in RFIC design, and certifications may reach high six-figure incomes, but $500,000 is rare for this specific engineering role alone.

What are Contract RFIC Design Engineers?

Contract RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) Design Engineers are specialists who design and develop integrated circuits that operate at radio frequencies, typically for wireless communication devices. Working on a contract basis, they may be hired by companies to complete specific projects or to provide expertise on a temporary basis. Their responsibilities include circuit design, simulation, layout, testing, and optimization of RFICs to meet performance, cost, and timeline requirements. Contract RFIC Design Engineers often collaborate with teams of hardware and software engineers to ensure seamless integration of RFICs within larger systems. They are also expected to stay updated on the latest technologies and design tools in the RF and semiconductor industries.

How much do RFIC engineers make?

RFIC design engineers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior engineers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher salaries, especially in high-demand sectors like telecommunications and aerospace. Compensation often includes benefits such as bonuses and stock options.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract RFIC Design Engineers when working with multiple clients or projects simultaneously?

Contract RFIC Design Engineers often juggle multiple projects and clients, which can lead to challenges in balancing differing technical requirements, project timelines, and communication styles. Coordinating with various teams, adapting to distinct design flows, and managing version control across projects demand strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Successfully navigating these challenges helps ensure timely delivery of high-quality RFIC designs, while also building a reputation for reliability and adaptability in the industry.

What is the difference between Contract Rfic Design Engineer vs RFIC Design Engineer?

AspectContract RFIC Design EngineerRFIC Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RFIC designSame as Contract RFIC Design Engineer
Work EnvironmentProject-based, often freelance or temporary roles in various companiesFull-time employment within a company or research lab
Industry UsageCommon in consulting, contract work, or short-term projectsStandard role in semiconductor and telecommunications industries

Both roles require similar technical skills and educational background, but Contract RFIC Design Engineers typically work on short-term projects and are hired on a contractual basis, whereas RFIC Design Engineers are usually full-time employees with ongoing responsibilities.

Job description

Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our team supporting the Research, Science and Engineering Services (RSES) contract at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and integrating electronic systems for cutting-edge projects. This requires a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment and is capable of following designs through the entire lifecycle-from concept to manufacturing, assembly, and testing. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, project managers, and engineers from various branches, to deliver high-quality solutions for flight missions.

The salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electronic circuits, from the component perspective, including power systems, amplifiers, DACS, high speed digital, and mixed signal designs

  • Design and develop intra-system harnessing

  • Integrate cameras, lasers, data storage, computational systems, and science instrumentation into designs

  • Modify and adapt designs to meet specific mission requirements for computational camera systems

  • Utilize Altium Designer for circuit design and PSPICE for simulation

  • Collaborate with external vendors for PCB fabrication and perform board population as needed

  • Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and assembly of electronic systems

  • Prepare detailed documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and test procedures

  • Work closely with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure seamless manufacturing and delivery

  • Communicate effectively with project managers, scientists, and engineers across avionics, software, thermal/structural, and mechanical design teams

  • Occasionally support overtime efforts to meet delivery deadlines for flight missions

  • Work alongside technicians and interact with software, thermal/structural, mechanical design teams, and project personnel

  • Engage with scientists, project managers, and chief engineers to ensure mission success

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers from the Electronics Systems Branch, including avionics leads, FPGA designers, and electronic designers

Minimum Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field

  • 3+ years of experience in electronic design and development.

  • Familiarity with Altium Designer for circuit design, and PSPICE for simulation, or similar design and simulation tools.

  • Hands-on experience with circuit design, simulation, and integration

  • Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes for electronic systems

  • Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills

  • The role is oriented toward delivery for flight missions and requires adaptability to evolving requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer and PSPICE simulation tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience with electronic hardware design and parts selection

  • Strong understanding of power electronics, EMI/EMC considerations, signal integrity, high speed digital, and mixed signal circuit principles
