Job Description:

The UPS Store, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS, is the world's largest franchisor of retail shipping, postal, printing and business service centers. The UPS Store has more than 5,500 independently owned locations in the U.S. and Canada. The Community & Public Relations Intern will have the opportunity to work within a large organization and learn how Community Relations and Public Relations works with other teams within the Marketing department. This role will support internal work for The UPS Store franchisees as well as external-facing content for customers. Expect a fast-paced environment, collaborative work, and pride in brand awareness.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assists with planning, writing, and publishing content intended for both the franchisee and external customer audience
  • Corresponds with the franchise network on general PR and community relations questions
  • Educates the franchise network about new and current PR support tools and content available for use on the franchisee intranet
  • Assists with writing franchisee and customer stories, conducting interviews and preparing editorial content for external release
  • Researches new PR tactics and competitor trends using informal and formal research techniques
  • Provides technology marketing with updated content for company website
  • Participates in Community Relations work supporting Corporate Social Responsibility charities
  • Helps with special projects, as needed
  • Performs analysis of key data and interprets findings for larger Marketing campaigns

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of public relations skills, including writing and editing press releases and bylines, writing media pitches and public speaking
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and expectations, while meeting all deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work as changes occur
  • Ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences (internal, external, franchisee, etc.)
  • 2 years of undergraduate education in Public Relations, Marketing Communication, Digital Engagement and/or a related area of study - Preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of products preferred (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information, think critically, ask questions, and provide creative ideas and feedback
  • Possess interest in supporting charitable causes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
  • Employer will not sponsor a visa for this or future positions
  • This role is performed entirely remotely, working from home or another approved location.
  • Must be a rising college junior or senior, or recent graduate within the last 12 months
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and effectively engage with diverse audiences across multiple communication platforms.

Pay Range:

Pay for this internship is based on several factors, including but not limited to geographic location, education level, and course of study. The base pay ranges from $13.35/hour to $30.00/hour for Undergraduate Interns or $22.60/hour to $52.00/hour for Postgraduate Interns. Hired applicants may be eligible for 401(k) retirement program, Discounted Employee Stock Purchase Program, and personal time.
