Contract Release Train Engineer information

What is a contract release train engineer?

Contract Release Train Engineers (RTEs) are professionals who facilitate Agile Release Trains (ARTs) within organizations, typically on a contract basis. They serve as servant leaders and coaches, ensuring that teams follow Agile processes, remove impediments, and coordinate large-scale software delivery. Contract RTEs are often brought in for their expertise to guide organizations through specific projects or Agile transformations, providing flexibility and specialized knowledge without a long-term employment commitment.

How does a contract release train engineer typically interact with cross-functional teams during a program increment (PI)?

As a Contract Release Train Engineer (RTE), you play a central role in facilitating communication and alignment across multiple agile teams within an Agile Release Train (ART). During a Program Increment (PI), you organize and lead PI Planning sessions, ensuring that teams understand objectives, dependencies, and timelines. You regularly coordinate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and stakeholders to resolve impediments and track progress, helping teams stay on course to deliver value. This collaborative environment requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as you'll often mediate between technical and business perspectives to keep everyone aligned.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract release train engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Release Train Engineer, you need expertise in Agile methodologies, program management, and a solid understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), typically supported by SAFe RTE certification and relevant experience. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, and Agile planning software is essential for tracking progress and facilitating collaboration. Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills help foster alignment and resolve impediments across teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring timely and efficient delivery of value across large-scale Agile programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Release Train Engineer in Birmingham, AL.
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) to support a large-scale Digital Banking technology initiative focused on AI-related application vulnerabilities and remediation. This role will serve as the critical connection between technology, engineering teams, and the Transformation/PMO organization, helping drive work from scoping through execution and reporting at the program level.

Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as the primary connection between technology, engineering teams, business stakeholders, and the Transformation/PMO organization
* Manage the program from a release train perspective, providing visibility across approximately 10 workstreams and 53 CI codes
* Work closely with engineering teams and resources supporting vulnerability identification and remediation
* Help scope and organize work, translate technical activities into program-level objectives, and drive execution
* Track progress, dependencies, risks, milestones, and delivery dates across multiple workstreams
* Provide program-level reporting and communicate technical information effectively to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders
* Partner closely with the PMO/Transformation Office to provide accurate, timely, and actionable program data
* Build and maintain Jira dashboards, reports, rich filters, and Jira plans to provide visibility into program health and delivery
REQUIREMENTS:
* Significant experience as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) or in a comparable technical program delivery role
* Strong hands-on experience with: Jira plans; Parent/child relationships; CI codes / work item structures; Dashboards and reporting; Rich filters; Dependencies; Release-level tracking; Scaling Jira reporting across multiple workstreams
* Intermediate to expert-level Jira expertise
* Strong understanding of Agile delivery, release planning, dependencies, burndowns, and program execution
* Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with both technical engineering teams and PMO/Transformation stakeholders
* Ability to understand technical work well enough to represent and advocate for the technology side of the program
* Strong ability to extract, analyze, organize, and communicate program data from Jira and other systems
* Demonstrated ability to be hands-on and drive work to completion, rather than simply facilitate meetings and ceremonies
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience supporting digital banking or financial services technology
* Experience with large-scale enterprise technology transformation programs
* Experience supporting AI, cybersecurity, vulnerability remediation, CI/CD, or application modernization initiatives
* Experience coordinating multiple engineering teams and complex technical dependencies
* Experience working with PMOs, Transformation Offices, or enterprise program organizations
* Experience working across organizational boundaries to resolve technical dependencies and drive solutions
