Job description

Job Title: Refractory Project Manager & Estimator
Division: Enerfab Power & Industrial
Location: Evansville, IN
Reporting To: Director of Construction
Salary Range: $120,000 to $135,000

Over the last century, our expanded capabilities, project experience, safety record, and commitment to quality have made Enerfab one of the industry leaders in shop fabrication, field erection and construction and maintenance services.
The Refractory Project Manager & Estimator is responsible for overseeing refractory installation and maintenance projects from bid through completion. This role combines technical estimating expertise with project management responsibilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of refractory materials, industrial processes, and field execution.
Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
• Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for refractory projects
• Perform quantity take-offs for refractory materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Develop detailed proposals, scopes of work, and project schedules
• Participate in bid reviews and client presentations as needed
Project Management
• Manage projects from award through closeout, including planning, execution, and financial performance
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts
• Coordinate with clients, field crews, subcontractors, and internal teams
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements
• Monitor job progress, productivity, and quality of installation
Field & Technical Oversight
• Provide technical guidance on refractory installation methods, materials, and best practices
• Conduct site visits, pre-job walks, and project meetings
• Staffing and development of the refractory crews
• Support troubleshooting and problem-solving in the field
• Ensure proper documentation of work performed, including reports and change orders
Financial & Contract Management
• Track project costs, manage budgets, and maintain profitability
• Prepare and manage change orders and billing
• Review contracts and ensure compliance
• Support project closeout, including final cost analysis and documentation
Qualifications
Education & Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field experience(preferred)
•5+ years of experience in refractory, industrial construction, or related field
•Experience in both estimating and project management strongly preferred
Technical Skills
•Strong understanding of refractory materials (brick, castable, ceramic fiber, etc.)
•Experience in industrial environments (metals, power, cement, glass, petrochemical, etc.)
•Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
•Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
