This posting is for a contract assignment and is not a full-time employment offer with Boeing. Candidates selected for roles will be employed as contract workers through a Boeing approved 3rd party for the duration of the specified project.

We are looking for a Senior Flight Control Systems Integration and Safety Engineer to support our team in Everett, Washington. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Gathers, defines and documents system level requirements and investigates actions necessary for requirements definition and flow-down improvement. Performs and documents design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems and guides experienced engineers in performance of the designs. Develops GNC and mathematical tools and techniques and aids in developing Technology roadmaps. Performs or directs test data analysis and documentation. Presents findings of compliance to regulatory agencies, negotiates certification basis in alignment project goals, simulation and design review per FAA, MIL-SPEC and NASA guidance. Trains and coaches others. Works under minimal direction.

Position Responsibilities
  • This requisition is seeking accomplished, self-motivated mid-career engineers to design, analyze, test and certify flight control systems and components for large commercial aircraft as well as to support the production and fleet operations of this equipment. This requisition is for multiple positions in multiple flight control disciplines performing many of the tasks listed below.
  • Decomposes airplane level requirements into system level requirements and further decomposes system level requirements into component requirements
  • Participates in and/or lead system, component and detail certification efforts, including: creation of required certification artifacts, such as, system safety analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and fault tree analysis; confirming and demonstrating traceability to regulatory requirements; and resolution of regulation conflicts.
  • Gathers, defines and documents system level requirements to support flight control and mission or trajectory requirements definition.
  • Resolves requirement conflicts. Performs and documents analysis and design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems to validate or assess the system design or models.
  • Participates in and/or lead system level and component level validation analysis and testing, including: test monitoring; analysis and test report authoring; supplier test report review and approval; test failure analysis; and test failure mitigation.
  • Generally, these activities require successful cross-functional coordination within and outside of Boeing including with:, avionics, pilot/crew operations, airplane safety, aerodynamics, BCA systems software, suppliers, airline customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Develops solutions and disposition of issues to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Works under general direction.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a โ€œUS Personโ€ as defined by 22 C.F.R. ยง 120.15 is required. โ€œUS Personโ€ includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5-7 years of technical experience working with Flight Controls
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with System Safety Analysis including failure modes and effects analysis; fault tree analysis; common cause analysis, and single & multiple failure analysis
  • Knowledge/Experience with ARP 4754 and ARP 4761
  • Experience with flight controls system and component architecture
  • Experience in requirements development, design, analysis, and verification & validation of flight control systems
  • Experience using requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORS
  • Experience with manufacturing regulated and certified, safety critical components and software

Typical Education/ Experience:
Bachelorโ€™s degree and typically 9 or more yearsโ€™ experience in an engineering classification or a Masterโ€™s degree with typically 7 or more yearsโ€™ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more yearsโ€™ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
