Job description

The Contract Network Engineer I/II provides onsite and remote technical support for customer networking projects throughout the United States. This position is designed for project-based engagements and is compensated on an hourly basis for actual hours worked. Assignments may range from a few days to several weeks depending on customer requirements.

The engineer will assist with the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and documentation of network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless solutions, firewalls, cabling infrastructure, and related technologies. The role combines entry-level and intermediate networking responsibilities and is ideal for professionals who enjoy hands-on technical work, travel, and flexible project assignments.

This is not a full-time salaried position and does not guarantee a minimum number of hours. Work opportunities are offered based on project needs and customer demand.

Key Responsibilities

Network Deployment & Installation

  • Install, rack, stack, cable, and label network equipment at customer locations.
  • Deploy and configure switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform network hardware replacements, upgrades, and refresh projects.
  • Assist with site surveys and network readiness assessments.
  • Validate connectivity and perform post-installation testing.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot Layer 1–3 networking issues.
  • Diagnose connectivity problems involving LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, and VoIP environments.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when necessary.
  • Support customer cutovers, migrations, and implementation activities.
  • Assist with network documentation and change management activities.

Project Execution

  • Execute project tasks according to scope, schedule, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, travel activities, and project documentation.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and deployment planning sessions.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and technical findings to project managers and engineering teams.
  • Follow established customer and company procedures.

Customer Engagement

  • Represent the organization professionally while onsite.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with client stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Education

Experience

Technical Skills
