Their primary responsibility is to prevent fraud by confirming the identities of signers and ensuring they are signing willingly. Many Contract Notaries also handle loan signings, affidavits, and other official documents.

Can I do contract notary work as a side hustle?

Contract notary work can often be done as a side hustle, as it typically involves providing notarization services on a flexible schedule. However, it requires proper certification, adherence to state laws, and sometimes a mobile or remote setup, making it suitable for part-time or supplemental income. Many notaries choose to work evenings or weekends to accommodate clients' needs.

To thrive as a Contract Notary, you need comprehensive knowledge of notary laws and procedures, attention to detail, and a valid state notary commission. Work can vary from scheduled appointments to urgent, same-day requests, offering flexibility but requiring a high level of reliability.
