Job Description

Scientist - Microbiology Method Development

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preparing and performing bacteriological and mycology testing and on various materials and matrices following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and in accordance with test guidelines.
  • Routine inspection and performance verification of laboratory equipment, media, and microorganisms.
  • Ability to develop and write microbiology SOPs for use in GLP studies, including experience working with quality teams in training and audits of microbiological studies.
  • Record data and results accurately and legibly on all documents.
  • Technical report writing including text, tables, graphs, and diagrams.
  • Follow and perform process qualifications and validations for procedures and/or equipment.
  • Executes projects as assigned, demonstrates ability to adapt to changing laboratory needs and requirements
  • Serves as point of contact for internal and external customers.
  • Provides guidance and training to technical staff on the proper conduct of study assignments.
  • Performs data analysis, first level and peer review of data.
  • Works with independence on studies and assignments following training and approval to perform.
  • Practices proper sterility procedures, including handling and disposal of samples and biohazardous waste.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Proficiency in microbial analysis using aseptic technique: sample preparation, media preparation, solution preparation, plate reading, growth and sterility testing
  • 5+ years' experience working in GLP, GMP and/or ISO environments
  • Advanced graduate degree in Microbiology
  • Experience with FDA and/or EPA regulatory submissions including data package generation and report submission.
  • Knowledge of Pesticide, Biocide(disinfectant), Microbe and other OECD principles
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficient in data analysis, especially statistical evaluations using comparison test and non-linear regression analyses

Basic Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

  • B.S. degree in microbiology with at least 5+ years of hands-on research experience with microbiological analysis.  Candidates with M.S. degree would be given preference.
  • Documented evidence of ability to have worked independently in a GLP laboratory on study design, data generation, and report writing.
  • Ability to prepare media, chemical solutions and provide supporting calculations.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment such as microscopes, balance, autoclaves, water purification systems, hood operation, particulate counter, membrane filtration, plate reader, etc.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Additional Information

Position is full-time, typically 5 out of 7 days per week, primarily M-F with some weekend responsibilities and with overtime as needed.
