Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) – Travel Contract
 

Location: Augusta, Maine
Facility: VA Medical Center (Federal Healthcare Facility)
Job Type: Full-Time Contract
Contract Duration: 1 Year with 4 Option Years (Potential Long-Term Assignment)
Shift: Rotating Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends (No On-Call)
Start: Following Credentialing (Approximately 6–8 Weeks)
 

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) to join a federal healthcare laboratory in Augusta, Maine. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience performing complex clinical laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for laboratory professionals seeking a stable, long-term government contract in a collaborative healthcare environment.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform patient testing and quality control procedures in accordance with laboratory policies and established protocols.
  • Independently analyze, evaluate, verify, and report laboratory test results accurately and promptly.
  • Perform testing across multiple laboratory departments, including:
    • Clinical Chemistry
    • Hematology
    • Coagulation
    • Urinalysis
    • Blood Bank/Transfusion Services
    • Microbiology
  • Operate, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain laboratory analyzers and equipment.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and scheduled quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Identify and resolve specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper patient and specimen identification before testing.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and VA documentation requirements.
  • Attend required laboratory meetings, quality improvement activities, and continuing education sessions.
  • Report patient safety events and critical incidents according to facility protocols.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related biological science.
  • Completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology program or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent clinical laboratory experience in:
    • Clinical Chemistry
    • Hematology
    • Coagulation
    • Urinalysis
    • Blood Bank
    • Microbiology
  • Candidates qualifying through an alternate education pathway must possess 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Required Certifications
  • National Certification as one of the following:
    • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
    • Medical Technologist (MT)
    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
  • Current BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
