American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift position requiring dedicated Med/Surg experience and prior travel assignment history.
Job Details
• Medical Surgical-Neuro unit with 1:6 patient ratios,
• 42 daily census across 43 rooms/beds,
• Cares primarily for stroke patients, plus Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other Neuro diagnoses,
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with training provided for travelers as needed,
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15),
• Contracts accepted for 13-26 weeks, with 36 or 48 hour options,
• Every other weekend work required,
• Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, potentially including COVID care units,
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems,
• 36 hours of unit orientation provided,
• Navy scrubs required,
Job Requirements
• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission,
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience (must appear specifically as MS in work history, not MS/Tele),
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying,
• Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS,
• Preferred certification: ACLS,
• Required skills: IV starts, telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Med/Surg Neuro experience,
• Additional relevant skills include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, neurological and psychiatric care, CVA, intracranial bleeds, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, traumatic brain injury, cardiac monitoring, and rapid response/code team experience,
• Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip management required; titration experience preferred,
• Experience in MS/Tele, Neuro Stepdown, or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings preferred,
• EKG testing must be passed prior to start,
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at submission),
Additional Information
• Provide medical-surgical nursing care to neurological patients, including stroke, seizure, and traumatic brain injury cases,
• Utilize rapid response and code teams for emergent situations,
• Weekly orientation schedule provided,
• Pre-start and annual online training modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles),
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate,
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required,
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment,
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays,
• Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission,
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
