Job description

What We Are Looking For
The Liquid Measurement Engineer/Analyst performs a variety of technical, analytical, and operational functions that support the goals and initiatives of the Measurement Department and the corporation. The position is responsible for analyzing measurement data, investigating discrepancies, supporting measurement systems and processes, collaborating with Operations, Accounting, Commercial, and Engineering groups, and driving improvements that enhance measurement accuracy, reliability, and overall system performance.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
What You Will Do
Responsibilites:
  • Utilize skills and knowledge to analyze measurement data, identify measurement inaccuracies, and work with others to interpret and resolve such inaccuracies.
  • Participate in the investigation and reconciliation of measurement discrepancies and data issues, Gain / Loss on liquid measurement company-owned assets.
  • Perform data analysis and audits of physical measurement points on Kinder Morgan assets.
  • Work with downstream business groups and third-party interconnecting companies regarding the exchange of measurement data.
  • Analyze measurement comparison reports and investigate discrepancies outside established tolerances.
  • Initiate, track, and finalize requests for measurement adjustments from third-party companies.
  • Complete and/or assist with point requests and point setup in measurement and accounting systems.
  • Provide timely responses to measurement inquiries and data requests from internal and external customers.
  • Manage measurement volume adjustments utilizing guidelines contained in pipeline tariffs, contracts, operating agreements, and departmental procedures.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure critical locations and deadlines are met.
  • Acquire and maintain working knowledge of applicable industry standards and guidelines, including API MPMS, AGA, GPA, ASTM, NAESB, SOX, BLM, and related standards.
  • Develop an understanding of the corporation's business functions, including gathering, transportation, storage, processing, and terminal operations involving liquid and gas products.
  • Understand the financial, operational, and regulatory impacts of measurement inaccuracies.
  • Assist with system development, enhancements, testing, documentation, and training.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of measurement procedures and business processes.
  • Work with management to develop project plans, goals, timelines, and implementation strategies.
  • Share technical and procedural knowledge and assist in training team members.
  • Provide backup support for team members as needed.
  • Notify management of immediate and potential issues affecting the quality and timeliness of measurement data.
  • Routinely prepare reports, summaries, procedures, presentations, policies, and technical documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Support team objectives, departmental policies and procedures, and applicable industry standards.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as directed by management.
  • Participate in team and department meetings.
  • Organize, schedule, and conduct meetings as required and document action items and outcomes.
  • Place priority on safety by supporting departmental and corporate safety goals and initiatives.

Specific Duties:
  • Analyze measurement data for completeness and identify trends, discrepancies, and anomalies using historical data and operational knowledge.
  • Research root causes and work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve measurement issues.
  • Utilize measurement systems to analyze and process measurement corrections when required.
  • Research and resolve measurement system validation errors.
  • Research and resolve measurement exceptions identified during data loading and processing.
  • Analyze measurement data, graphs, trends, and calculated values to identify potential inaccuracies.
  • Review, verify, and resolve discrepancies associated with field meter calibration and inspection reports.
  • Develop proficiency with measurement equipment, flow calculations, metering technologies, and associated systems.
  • Identify and resolve missing data issues affecting the transfer of data from field devices into measurement and accounting systems.
  • Work with management and field personnel to implement appropriate measurement corrections.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation supporting measurement edits and adjustments.
  • Manage measurement information received from third-party companies.
  • Understand and follow volume adjustment guidelines established in tariffs, contracts, operating agreements, and departmental procedures.
  • Participate in the reconciliation of Gain / Loss on company assets.
  • Develop proficiency utilizing SCADA systems to investigate and analyze measurement discrepancies.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and engineering tools-including Power BI, SQL, Meter Spatialization, FlowCal, SCADA systems, data visualization platforms, and AI/LLM technologies-to support investigations, process improvements, and measurement system performance analysis.

What You Need
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Required Qualifications:
  • Intermediate /advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including the ability to understand and apply formulas, calculations, percentages, and technical concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, management, customers, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with software systems and tools required to perform assigned job functions.
  • Self-motivated and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Effective at establishing priorities and managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in measurement, volume accounting, data collection, data validation, data analysis, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience with liquid and/or gas custody transfer measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of measurement principles, volume determination, balancing, and loss accounting.
  • Familiarity with FlowCal, SCADA systems, flow-computers, measurement equipment, and associated field instrumentation.
  • Experience performing data analytics, reporting, automation, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Python, Excel Power Query, or other analytical tools.
  • Understanding API MPMS, GPA, AGA, ASTM, or other industry measurement standards.

Working Conditions:
  • Office based position.
  • Hybrid work schedule may be available.
  • May be required to work occasional hours outside of normal business hours with limited notice.
  • May be required to travel including overnight and /or weekends (5 - 10%)
  • Valid driver license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
