About the Role

Verde Nexus is seeking a Grant Development Specialist for a remote, project-based contract engagement.

The specialist will identify, evaluate, develop, and support eligible grant opportunities aligned with Verde Nexus Foundation and approved pilot-program objectives while maintaining appropriate separation between charitable grant activity and Verde Nexus LLC’s commercial operations.

This role requires more than strong writing. The successful candidate must be able to determine eligibility before significant effort is invested, interpret funding restrictions, coordinate documentation and budgets, manage deadlines, and support compliant submission and reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Research federal, state, regional, foundation, corporate-foundation, and other eligible grant opportunities.
• Screen funding opportunities for eligibility, restrictions, geographic requirements, allowable uses, matching requirements, and reporting obligations.
• Prioritize opportunities aligned with workforce development, agriculture, food systems, education, sustainability, community development, economic mobility, and related social-impact initiatives.
• Maintain a structured grant pipeline, calendar, deadline tracker, and document checklist.
• Develop clear and compelling grant narratives aligned with funder priorities.
• Coordinate grant budgets, supporting documentation, program data, organizational information, and required attachments.
• Work with leadership and program stakeholders to define measurable outcomes and impact metrics.
• Support application submission and follow-up requirements.
• Track application status, award conditions, reporting schedules, and future opportunities.
• Prepare concise internal reports on submissions, pending opportunities, awards, declines, and upcoming deadlines.
• Flag compliance conflicts, restricted-use concerns, or entity-eligibility issues before submission.
• Help ensure appropriate separation between Verde Nexus Foundation grant activity and Verde Nexus LLC commercial activity.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and organized grant records.

Ideal Candidate

Strong candidates should demonstrate:

• Proven grant research, writing, or proposal-development experience.
• Ability to craft persuasive narratives while remaining accurate and evidence-based.
• Experience evaluating grant eligibility and interpreting funder requirements.
• Strong project coordination, deadline management, and documentation skills.
• Financial literacy sufficient to support grant budgeting, cost allocation, and allowable-use requirements.
• Familiarity with grant databases, CRM systems, grants-management platforms, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or similar collaborative tools.
• Strong written communication, proofreading, research, and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience with workforce development, agriculture, food systems, education, sustainability, community development, economic mobility, technology, or social-impact funding is highly desirable.
• Understanding of nonprofit/commercial entity separation is strongly preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience working across diverse communities, regions, or international environments is advantageous.

A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, business, public policy, education, sustainability, or a related discipline is welcomed; equivalent demonstrated grant-development experience may substitute for formal education.

Engagement & Compensation

This position is a project-based contract opportunity, not a current salaried employee position.

Compensation will be established in writing before each approved project or assignment and may include:

• fixed grant-research/project fees;
• fixed proposal-development or submission fees;
• defined deliverable-based compensation; and
• as Verde Nexus receives usable operating funding, potential progression into a more consistent project retainer or expanded funded engagement based on performance and organizational need.

No commission or percentage of grant awards, charitable donations, or investment capital will be paid.

Additional projects and expanded responsibilities may be offered based on work quality, reliability, funding pipeline, and organizational requirements.

Work Arrangement

Remote — United States

The position will primarily support U.S.-based grant and funding opportunities associated with Verde Nexus Foundation and approved pilot initiatives. Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina is the initial U.S. flagship pilot market, while broader national and international funding opportunities may be researched as the Verde Nexus model expands.
