Breaking Ground operates nearly 4,000 units of housing across New York City, along with housing in upstate New York and Connecticut. Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.
But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.
The Government Contract Compliance and Data Strategy department is responsible for ensuring the agency's compliance with government contracts, and overseeing Breaking Ground's data collection and analytics, and quality assurance efforts. This department plays an integral role in Breaking Ground's overall mission by ensuring that our work is data informed, high quality, and meets contract and regulatory compliance standards.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Software Engineering, the Assistant Director, Software Engineering manages a team of Software Engineers providing software and engineering services across the organization. They implement the technical direction for the organization and provide technical expertise and manage the creation of internal software and seamless integrations with external software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Successful oversight and performance management of a team of Software Engineers
  • Responsible for implementing supervisory strategies, and systems of accountability to ensure that staff have adequate support, guidance, and oversight at all times
  • Manage the design and development of software solutions; manage priorities and ensure seamless rollouts
  • Provide technical input for software engineering projects
  • Evaluate external software for functionality and data integration purposes with existing software
  • Identify areas in need of software to help provide better processes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify solutions to software bottlenecks
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 5 years of professional technical experience in product
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 6 years of software development experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency in C#, JavaScript, Python, SQL, SQL Server, ASP.NET MVC Web Framework, Git Version Control, Microsoft Azure Suite
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams
  • Strong communications skills and experience working closely with leadership and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to understand and problem solve across a variety of challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives with their teams and achieve outcome measures and deliverables
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple significant priorities, including complex and time sensitive projects, and the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Highly analytical and a strategic problem solver
