What is a Contract Game Developer job?

A Contract Game Developer is a freelance or temporary professional hired to develop video games for a specific project or duration. They typically work on programming, game mechanics, optimization, or other development tasks. Unlike full-time employees, contract developers work on short-term agreements and may collaborate with multiple studios or clients. This role offers flexibility but may require finding new contracts regularly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Contract Game Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Game Developer, you need a solid background in programming languages such as C++, C#, or JavaScript, and experience in game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine. Familiarity with source control systems (e.g., Git), debugging tools, and relevant certifications or portfolios showcasing shipped games are highly valued. Strong time management, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help developers excel, especially when working remotely or with diverse teams. These competencies enable contract game developers to deliver high-quality projects on tight deadlines, adapt to different workflows, and collaborate efficiently with clients and teammates.

What types of projects or tasks can a Contract Game Developer expect to work on?

As a Contract Game Developer, you may be involved in a wide range of tasks depending on the studio's needs, such as designing new game features, fixing bugs, optimizing performance, or creating game prototypes. You'll likely collaborate closely with artists, designers, and other developers, often joining existing teams to bring specialized expertise or cover resource gaps. This role offers exposure to different genres and technologies, which can greatly broaden your experience and skill set as you work with multiple clients.

Job description

About this role:

We're seeking a highly motivated Sales Director to drive new logo acquisition for the Liftoff Demand team. In this role, you'll be responsible for identifying, engaging, and closing high-value opportunities with some of the largest brands across both gaming and non-gaming verticals. This is a high-impact, quota-carrying role ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment and is passionate about helping performance marketers scale through programmatic app advertising

Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the entire sales lifecycle - from outbound prospecting and inbound lead qualification to proposal development, contract negotiation, and initial campaign execution.
  • Lead client engagement following contract execution, overseeing campaign activation, and providing strategic guidance on performance and optimizations.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Performance Strategy, Sales Engineering, Finance, Legal, Product Marketing) to ensure seamless onboarding and long-term client success.
  • Maintain deep expertise in mobile advertising trends, competitive landscape, and Liftoff's evolving product offerings to position solutions effectively.
  • Represent Liftoff at key industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to drive visibility and pipeline growth.
  • Maintain a disciplined approach to pipeline management, leveraging CRM tools for accurate forecasting and performance tracking.
  • Consistently exceed quarterly revenue targets through strategic account acquisition and strong client relationship management.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in digital marketing or programmatic sales with demonstrated experience closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals (preferably mid-market to enterprise).
  • Mobile adtech space fluency including but not limited to DSPs, agencies, ad networks, MMPs, and other ecosystem players.
  • A well-established network of decision-makers at top brands and agencies, with a proven ability to open doors and drive revenue.
  • Outstanding presentation, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse stakeholders.
  • A strategic and consultative sales approach grounded in data, with a focus on building long-term, value-driven partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of the mobile advertising ecosystem and the confidence to serve as a subject matter expert on Liftoff's solutions.
  • Highly self-motivated and resourceful, capable of operating independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Relentlessly driven and professionally persistent - able to overcome objections, navigate complex sales cycles, and turn a "no" into a "yes".

In addition to external engagement, Liftoff holds company-wide events, regional team meetings, and offsites - creating valuable opportunities for cross-functional collaboration, strategic planning, and team building.
