SierTeK Ltd. is seeking an Epidemiologist to support an opportunity at Joint Base San Antonio, TX,

Position Overview Section 

We are seeking a skilled Epidemiologist to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) and the Aeromedical Waiver Division (AMWD). This position plays a critical role in supporting the Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence (AWARE) program by developing and maintaining secure data pipelines, conducting epidemiologic analyses, and translating complex health surveillance data into actionable insights that improve aeromedical waiver decisions and force readiness.

The successful candidate will work closely with epidemiologists, data scientists, clinicians, and military stakeholders to manage military health data, develop analytical products, support scientific research, and enhance evidence-based decision-making across the Department of the Air Force.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and maintain expertise in Aeromedical Waiver Division (AMWD) data systems, processes, and data repositories.
  • Design, maintain, validate, and support secure data pipelines between AMWD systems and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Application Virtualization Hosting Environment (AVHE).
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, accessibility, and compliance with HIPAA and applicable data use agreements.
  • Support the planning and execution of epidemiologic investigations by assessing data availability, quality, and feasibility.
  • Assist users in accessing and interpreting Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence (AWARE) products, including dashboards, publications, and approved datasets.
  • Perform validation and quality assurance activities to verify data pipeline performance and analytical outputs.
  • Collect, integrate, manage, and administer healthcare and operational data from multiple military databases.
  • Develop datasets supporting statistical modeling, epidemiologic analyses, and scientific publication.
  • Perform descriptive statistical analyses using SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL, and related analytical tools.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific manuscripts, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Present study findings to government leadership, technical working groups, and professional conferences.
  • Provide technical support for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft SQL Server, and Adobe software used in research activities.
  • Document programming code, analytical workflows, and technical procedures in accordance with USAFSAM programming standards.
  • Support knowledge transfer through technical documentation, briefings, and customer engagement across USAFSAM and the Department of the Air Force.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in epidemiology or a related public health field.
  • Current or ability to obtain HIPAA training for handling protected health information.
  • Advanced analytical skills in:
    • Population health analytics
    • Health surveillance
    • Epidemiologic study design
    • Statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated experience designing and conducting analyses using health surveillance, healthcare, or military datasets.
  • Strong proficiency with:
    • SAS
    • SAS Enterprise Guide (SAS EG)
    • SQL and relational databases
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Adobe Acrobat
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using SAS Enterprise Guide and/or SQL.
  • Experience developing and maintaining analytical datasets and supporting data pipeline activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Ability to document programming code and analytical processes following established programming standards.
  • Signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to performance.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting health analytics, epidemiology, or public health research within the Department of the Air Force (DAF) or Department of Defense (DoD).
  • Experience working with military health surveillance systems, aeromedical data, or operational medical records.
  • Experience supporting secure healthcare data environments, including the Defense Health Agency Application Virtualization Hosting Environment (AVHE).
  • Experience with data visualization, dashboard development, or health informatics tools.
