Job description

Job Title: Epic Project Manager - Enterprise Implementation
Department: Information Technology / Clinical Informatics
Reports To: Epic Program Director
Location: On-site

Position Summary

As Baton Rouge General enters an exciting and pivotal phase of its Epic implementation, this position offers a unique opportunity to join a high-profile strategic initiative that is nearing completion of the build waves and transitioning into future-state workflow design and operational readiness. The successful candidate will partner closely with highly engaged physicians, nurses, and operational leaders as they define how care will be delivered in Epic, helping shape the organization's future clinical and business workflows for years to come.

The Clinical Project Manager will serve as a liaison between, clinical departments, IT teams, Epic consultants, and external vendors to ensure a successful transition to Epic and long-term operational success. This role requires exceptional collaboration, communication, and change management skills, along with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex organizational transformation.

A strong clinical background and firsthand experience using Epic in a healthcare setting are highly desirable, enabling the Clinical Project Manager to effectively facilitate workflow discussions, bridge clinical and technical perspectives, and serve as a trusted partner to clinical stakeholders throughout implementation and go-live.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Governance

Lead the end-to-end Epic implementation lifecycle, including planning, design, build, testing, training, go-live, and stabilization.

Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, and dependencies for multiple Epic modules.

Ensure adherence to Epic implementation methodologies and organizational standards.

Stakeholder & Team Management

Coordinate cross-functional teams including clinical leaders, revenue cycle, IT analysts, trainers, and Epic-certified consultants.

Facilitate effective communication among physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, and executive leadership.

Manage vendor relationships, including Epic, third-party consultants, and integration partners.

Escalate risks, issues, and decisions appropriately to executive leadership.

Scope, Budget & Risk Management

Define and control project scope, preventing scope creep while accommodating necessary clinical and operational needs.

Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; participate in developing contingency and mitigation plans.

Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and organizational requirements.

Workflow & Change Management

Partner with clinical and operational leaders to redesign workflows and align them with Epic best practices.

Support change management initiatives, including communication plans, training readiness, and adoption strategies.

Ensure end-user readiness through coordinated training, testing, and go-live support plans.

Testing, Go-Live & Stabilization

Oversee integrated testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live readiness assessments.

Coordinate go-live activities, command center operations, and issue resolution.

Lead post-go-live stabilization efforts, including optimization planning and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in healthcare, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Demonstrated experience managing large-scale EHR or Epic implementations in acute care hospital settings.

Strong understanding of hospital clinical and operational workflows.

Proven ability to manage complex, multi-year, multi-module enterprise projects.

Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Epic certification(s) or prior Epic implementation leadership experience.

Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI-ACP, or similar certification.

Experience implementing Epic in a large hospital (400+ beds) or multi-facility health system.

Experience with revenue cycle, inpatient, ambulatory, or ancillary Epic modules.

Familiarity with healthcare regulatory requirements (HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission).
