Job description

Job Summary:
The Contract Drafter is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and finalizing formal documentation of terms and conditions for reinsurance arrangements.
Contract Drafter responsibilities:
  • Prepares draft contracts, endorsements, and other documents for clients and markets.
  • Researches regulations and other industry requirements impacting reinsurance contracts, as needed.
  • Discusses contract issues with broker teams.
  • Facilitates the brokers' negotiation of contract language and liaises with clients and markets, as needed.
  • Maintains contract and correspondence files, in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Works with contracts administrative staff, brokers, reinsurers and clients to ensure timely execution of reinsurance contracts.
  • Provides document review, training, and oversight for brokers.
  • Documents the status and abstracts the content of contracts in the firm's document tracking systems.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and experience in a contract writing department of a reinsurance broker, reinsurance underwriter, or ceding company is required.
  • JD or other legal degree preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 3 years reinsurance contract drafting work experience.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with document management and workflow systems would be a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reinsurance contracts for various lines and programs is essential.
  • Must understand and assimilate industry developments (such as the emergence of new lines of insurance, reinsurance structures, regulations, business processes, etc.) as they arise.
  • Excellent writing skills required. Must be a skilled and an effective negotiator.
  • Ability to complete continuing education requirements as needed
  • Ability to attend company, department, and team meetings as required, including industry training sessions
  • Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures, proactively protecting confidentiality of client and company information
  • Ability to efficiently organize work and manage time to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed
  • Legally able to work in the United States
