Job Summary
We are seeking a PCIS Engineer (Process Controls & Instrumentation Systems Engineer) with 6+ years of experience supporting industrial manufacturing or process plant environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in controls engineering, instrumentation, PLC/SCADA systems, electrical power distribution, commissioning, troubleshooting, and process automation. This role will support plant operations, system upgrades, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring safe and efficient production.
Title: PCIS Engineer
Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite controls and instrumentation engineering support in an industrial process plant.
  • Troubleshoot electrical power, control systems, PLCs, instrumentation, and process equipment.
  • Design, implement, and support equipment modifications, control system upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Serve as the engineering owner for assigned equipment and drive system reliability initiatives.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, qualification, and validation activities.
  • Develop engineering design packages for electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including instrument datasheets, I/O lists, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and instrument indexes.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams, vendors, contractors, and construction personnel to execute projects successfully.
  • Participate in design reviews, factory/site acceptance testing, and project execution activities.
  • Support procurement, installation, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and other applicable electrical safety standards and regulations.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to improve equipment performance and plant reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience as a PCIS Engineer, Controls Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, or Electrical Controls Engineer in an industrial manufacturing or process plant environment.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection, calibration, control valves, transmitters, and process control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS, industrial communication networks, and automation systems.
  • Experience with low-voltage electrical distribution, MCCs, VFDs, electrical schematics, and power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in preparing engineering documentation, including wiring diagrams, instrument datasheets, loop drawings, and I/O lists.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards, including CAT 3 safety wiring and UL508A control panel design.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, validation, startup, and plant expansion projects.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
