Purpose
Serve as a key technical accounting resource within the Revenue Accounting function, reporting to and working closely with the Director of Revenue Accounting on complex revenue recognition matters, contract reviews, and internal controls. This role plays a central part in scaling and maturing the Revenue Accounting department, reviewing customer contracts for proper treatment under ASC 606, and ensuring compliance with SOX 404(b) requirements. Partner closely with Billing Operations, FP&A, and Accounting to optimize revenue outcomes, while driving improvements in reporting, controls, and automation.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for revenue recognition and technical accounting, working closely with the Director of Revenue Accounting on complex judgments and department priorities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior revenue staff (analysts or specialists as team grows).
  • Partner with Billing Operations and FP&A leadership to align reporting and forecasting with actual revenue performance.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Demonstrate and ensure conformance with company philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage the day-to-day revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and GAAP, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Support the Director of Revenue Accounting in strengthening and growing the Revenue Accounting function, including enhancing processes, documentation, and controls as the team grows.
  • Enhance and scale the contract review process to support the Company's continued growth, ensuring timely, well-documented revenue recognition sign-off under ASC 606.
  • Develop and enhance revenue analytics dashboards to provide insights into customer, project, and business unit performance.
  • Partner with FP&A to align revenue forecasts with pipeline data and actuals.
  • Identify process and systems improvements to streamline revenue reporting and analytics.

Do the Work
  • Review contracts for revenue recognition impact, flagging complex or non-standard terms as needed.
  • Determine contract asset and liability positions based on percentage-of-completion and quantify the corresponding revenue recognition impact for review and approval.
  • Reconcile the Project Ledger to the General Ledger.
  • Lead the budgeting efforts for estimated costs at completion, and work with IT and Operations on further enhancements to the project budgeting systems and processes.
  • Drive automation in revenue processes, partnering with Business Systems and IT.
  • Ensure documentation of policies, procedures, and controls for revenue.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX 404b for internal controls for revenue recognition.
  • Draft technical accounting memos and position papers on complex or judgmental revenue recognition issues for review by the Director of Revenue Accounting and external auditors.
  • Support the Financial Audit and Review activities by providing contract support and evidence for selections as requested.
  • Assist with the preparation of revenue disclosures for SEC reporting, including disaggregation of Revenue and the Analysis of Bad Debt.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA desirable but not required.
  • Seven or more (7+) years of accounting experience with significant exposure to revenue processes and ASC 606.
  • Previous public company experience, ideally at a company with $500 million or more in annual revenue.
  • Demonstrated technical accounting expertise, including hands-on contract review and drafting technical memos addressing complex ASC 606 revenue recognition issues.
  • Experience in accounting within a professional services, engineering, or consulting firm strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or other project costing Enterprise Resource Planning system.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and exposure to BI/reporting tools required.
