Job description

Machine Specialties, LLC is a leading contract machining and metal finishing company that designs and manufactures sophisticated, cost-effective solutions to meet our clients' most demanding challenges. Our company is located in Whitsett, NC, about 8 miles outside of Greensboro, NC.

We are currently looking for a CMM Operator/Programmer to join our team.

The CMM Operator / Programmer is responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), specifically Zeiss CMM equipment, to inspect and measure parts to ensure they meet specified standards and tolerances. This position will work closely with the quality team to maintain high-quality standards to best meet our customer's requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate Zeiss CMM machines using appropriate software.
  • Develop and optimize CMM inspection programs for new and existing parts.
  • Perform detailed inspections and measurements, ensuring parts comply with specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Interpret and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) in inspection processes.
  • Analyze measurement data, generate inspection reports, and document findings.
  • Troubleshoot CMM programs, probe setups, and measurement discrepancies.
  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of the CMM equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection results, programs, and calibration activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the inspection process.
  • Ensure all inspection activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical degree or certification in metrology, manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience operating and programming CMMs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Zeiss CMM machines and Calypso software strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and advanced inspection techniques.
  • Ability to create, edit, and troubleshoot CMM programs independently.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex measurement data.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to pass a vision test, eyeglasses or contacts are acceptable.
