Job Description:

As part of the Certification Team, the Certification Engineer is responsible for all airworthiness tasks related to the activities and products delivered by the Customer Service business. This covers customer requested in-service repairs and optional upgrades for all Airbus commercial aircraft programs and a wide range of system and operational subjects.

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenges:

As part of the Certification Team, the Certification Engineer is responsible for all airworthiness tasks related to the activities and products delivered by the Customer Service businessandAirbus Delivery Center. This coverssingle aisle individual aircraft certification for Airbus commercial programandcustomer requested in-service repairsandoptional upgradesfor all Airbus commercial aircraft programsand a wide range of system and operational subjects.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage Certification

  • Lead and conduct the airworthiness approvals of Airbus products and product changes with the certificating Authority, and validation of these approvals by the importing countries' Authorities.

  • Manage a varied, multi-ATA and multi-program, subject workload in accordance with Customer Services' sometimes challenging business needs and customers' expectations, while ensuring conformity with certification requirements and DOA processes.

  • Ensure good communication and exchange with other members of the global Certification Team,Customer Aircraft Delivery Teamand other certification functions to ensure consistency in the Way of Working and certification approach ("Speak One Voice").

  • Consult, and sometimes challenge, Technical, Change Management, and Certification Specialists to ensure appropriate solutions, particularly to account for the variety of in-service aircraft configurationsandsingle aisleindividual aircraft certificationto maintain strong competence across this wide domain.

Airworthiness Approvals

  • Perform airworthiness approvals in accordance with Airbus Design Organization Approval (DOA) privileges:

    • Modification (MOD) approval for change to Type Certificate (TC) classified minor or Certain Major Change (CMC)

    • Service Bulletin (SB) approval and airworthiness release

    • Repair & Design Approval Form (RDAF) approval

    • Aircraft Design Declaration (ADD) approval and airworthiness release.

Authority Interfacing

  • Act as an interface to Airworthiness authorities for all aspects of certification activities.

Continuing Airworthiness

  • Support acceptance of individual aircraft by customers and their local authorities.

Your boarding pass:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or related field:

  • 3 years of experience in Engineering or Airworthiness / Certification roles.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Ability to understand and mentor principles within assigned discipline.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical aircraft topics.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organization skills.

  • Ability to inter-relate with and motivate diverse teams.

  • Authorized to work in the US.

  • Ability to work any shift. (Shift hours include Monday - Friday 8hr Day Shift or Friday - Sunday 12hr Shift.)

*This position initially will be on a regular shift. It does require working a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends on a rotational basis throughout the year.

Preferred Skills:

  • Nomination as Designated Airworthiness Engineer (DAE) or Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE).

  • Experience with Airbus Aircrafts.

  • Familiarity with Modification (MOD), Service Bulletin (SB), and Repair & Design Approval Form (RDAF) deliverables of the Customer Service business.

  • Familiarity with In-Service Solutions and Change / Configuration Management.

Travel Required:

  • 5% Domestic and International

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: Onsite 100%

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
