Content Optimization information

What is content optimization?

Content optimization is the process of improving your website's content to make it more appealing and useful to both users and search engines. This involves refining text, images, metadata, and other elements to boost search engine rankings, increase user engagement, and achieve specific business goals. Techniques include keyword integration, improving readability, adding relevant links, and ensuring content is up to date. Effective content optimization helps drive more organic traffic and enhances the overall user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in content optimization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Content Optimization, you need expertise in SEO, keyword research, analytics, and a solid understanding of digital marketing principles, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and various content management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help professionals stand out in this role. These skills ensure content reaches the right audience, performs well in search rankings, and aligns with business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in content optimization roles, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in content optimization is balancing SEO requirements with maintaining engaging and natural-sounding content for readers. Professionals often need to collaborate closely with writers, editors, and SEO specialists to ensure content is both discoverable and valuable. Keeping up with frequent changes in search engine algorithms and best practices is also crucial. Addressing these challenges involves ongoing communication with team members, continuous learning, and using analytics tools to measure and refine optimization strategies.

One of the fastest-growing organizations in the country, Life Surge/SurgeU exists to inspire, train, and equip people to build their personal impact in ways that glorify God. By producing 30+ annual events and providing financial education to thousands around the nation, we do just that.

We are a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about helping people learn, grow, and connect so they may live more enriched lives. Our culture is one where we celebrate each other, individually and as a team. We look to acknowledge and reward our star performers. Let your light shine in our company!

Opportunity:

SurgeU is looking for a SERP & Content Strategist (SEO Strategist) who understands that winning in search requires more than traditional SEO. This role sits at the intersection of search strategy, content strategy, technical SEO, digital reputation, and consumer trust. Your job is to understand what people discover when they search for SurgeU, and then help build the content ecosystem that shapes that experience.

You’ll analyze branded and reputation-sensitive search results, identify gaps and opportunities, determine what content needs to exist, and work across Brand, Communications, Creative, Web, and ORM to turn those insights into authoritative digital assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Mapping and continuously monitoring the search landscape surrounding SurgeU, its programs, leadership, products, and reputation.
  • Identifying the branded and reputation-sensitive queries that matter most to prospective and current students.
  • Analyzing page-one search results to understand who owns the conversation, why specific pages rank, and where opportunities exist.
  • Developing strategies to improve SurgeU's visibility across priority SERPs.
  • Building content roadmaps based on search intent, reputation needs, consumer questions, competitive gaps, and business priorities.
  • Translating search data into clear, actionable content briefs.
  • Partnering with writers, Communications, Creative, Brand, and subject-matter experts to develop authoritative content.
  • Optimizing existing content when improving an established asset is more valuable than creating something new.
  • Developing and optimizing trust-focused content such as FAQs, program pages, student stories, educational resources, leadership content, proof-point pages, and reputation resources.
  • Ensuring content is structured around human intent first and search visibility second without sacrificing either.
  • Owning on-page optimization across priority reputation content.
  • Developing internal linking strategies that strengthen priority pages and content clusters.
  • Recommending structured data/schema and other technical enhancements where they can improve discoverability.
  • Partnering with web and technical teams to address indexation, crawlability, canonicalization, redirects, site architecture, or other issues affecting priority content.
  • Conducting competitive content and SERP analyses to understand where third parties are outperforming SurgeU.
  • Identifying back link and digital authority opportunities in partnership with Communications and other teams.
  • Monitoring ranking movement and determining why performance changed.
  • Identifying content decay, cannibalization, gaps, and opportunities across the existing content library.
  • Helping SurgeU understand how traditional search and emerging AI-powered discovery environments are changing the way consumers research the brand.
  • Maintaining a prioritized roadmap rather than chasing every possible keyword or SEO opportunity.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in SEO, content strategy, organic search, digital strategy, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing SERPs and developing strategies based on what you find.
  • Strong proficiency with SEO and analytics platforms such as Ahrefs, Semrush, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, or comparable tools.
  • Strong understanding of search intent and how it should influence content strategy.
  • Experience developing SEO-driven content roadmaps and detailed content briefs.
  • Strong understanding of on-page optimization, internal linking, site architecture, and technical SEO fundamentals.
  • Experience analyzing backlinks, referring domains, competitors, and authority signals.
  • Strong writing and editorial instincts.
  • Ability to distinguish genuinely useful content from content created simply to target a keyword.
  • Ability to translate technical SEO findings into clear recommendations for writers, designers, marketers, and executives.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data.
  • Exceptional curiosity and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to prioritize opportunities based on impact rather than simply search volume.

Job Benefits:

  • Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Holiday, and Paid Time Off.
  • Non-corporate, casual, entrepreneurial, comfortable, fun, and proactive work environment.
  • High-level performers, disciplined, and self-motivated people will do very well in this environment.
