Job description

This Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer role is based in Salt Lake City with hybrid flexibility, and carries real leadership potential as the office grows. The ideal candidate has 3 to 7 years of consulting engineering experience, strong knowledge of institutional building mechanical systems, and either holds a PE license or is actively working toward one. This is a mechanical engineer who wants ownership of projects from design through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design for institutional projects including healthcare, K-12, higher education, and government facilities

  • Complete project designs and drawings in 3D Revit and 2D CAD

  • Perform site observations, specifications, calculations, and equipment selection

  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget across the design and construction phases

  • Interface directly with clients, coworkers, and end users to document expectations

  • Work closely with firm Principals across the Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming offices

  • Participate in business development including client relationship management and proposal preparation

  • Support pursuit strategy for new institutional mechanical engineering work

  • Contribute to internal leadership, office growth, and staffing as the Salt Lake City office expands

  • Lead construction administration for mechanical scope on active projects

  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers as the office team grows

  • Ensure mechanical designs meet applicable national codes and standards

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited institution

  • 3 to 7 years of consulting engineering experience

  • Minimum 2 years of institutional design experience

  • Strong knowledge of institutional building mechanical systems

  • Working knowledge of applicable national codes and standards

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or actively working toward one

  • Proficiency in Revit

  • Prior experience contributing to business development or proposal work

  • Interest in taking a leadership role in a growing office

Compensation and Benefits

  • $85,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience and licensure

  • Major medical, vision, and dental 100% paid for the employee, with partial coverage for dependents

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Flexible spending account and health/fitness plan

  • Short and long term disability, life insurance 100% paid for the employee

  • Flex schedule: 9-hour days Monday through Thursday, half days Friday

  • Paid holidays, monthly company activities, and employee longevity rewards

Why This Role

This is a rare shot at building an office. A mechanical engineer who steps in now has a direct hand in shaping the Salt Lake City team's culture, project mix, and growth trajectory. The firm's institutional project pedigree means the work is technically substantial, not repetitive commercial output. Combine that with a genuine mentorship culture and a Friday half-day schedule, and this role suits someone who wants both a career and a life outside it.
