Job description

Overview
Auburn University Outreach is seeking a Communications & Design Student Employee to begin in Fall 2026. This position supports the Outreach Communications and Marketing team through basic graphic design, template development, monthly newsletter updates, and social media management.
The student assistant will help maintain consistent branding across digital platforms while promoting Outreach programs, events, faculty engagement and community partnerships. This role is ideal for a student interested in graphics, digital communications and higher education marketing. Majors: Graphic Design, Media Studies, Public Relations,
Communication, Journalism, Marketing or a closely related field.
Responsibilities
Graphic Design & Templates
  • Design visually compelling graphics to support Auburn University Outreach marketing needs.
  • Create and maintain branded templates for social media, newsletters, presentations and internal use.
  • Resize and format graphics for web, email, print and social media platforms.
  • Assist with basic layout and design updates for digital publications, including the monthly newsletter.

Newsletter Support
  • Assist with monthly Outreach newsletter updates, including graphic elements,
  • formatting and content layout.
  • Collaborate with Outreach staff to ensure timely, accurate and on-brand content.

Social Media Management
  • Create, manage and post content for Auburn University Outreach's primary social media channels.
  • Maintain and update a social media content calendar.
  • Proactively identify engaging content aligned with the Outreach mission, including stories about faculty, students, partners and events.
  • Monitor social media performance and assist with basic analytics reporting.
  • Adjust posting practices based on performance data and engagement trends.

Team Support
  • Provide general communications and marketing support as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and time-sensitive requests.
  • Work collaboratively with Outreach Communications and Marketing staff while managing independent tasks.

Qualifications
  • Enrolled student at Auburn University.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Express, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat.
  • Understanding of social media platforms for professional or organizational use.
  • Strong attention to detail and basic writing & proofreading skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow brand guidelines.
  • Dependable self-starter comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with branding standards and digital communications.
  • Familiarity with social media content planning or analytics.
  • Basic experience with email marketing or newsletters.
  • Service-oriented and willing to learn.
  • Interest in higher education communications and Auburn University Outreach.
