Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Sorts, wraps, inspects and packages finished product for shipping or warehousing. Cleans and maintains plant and related facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Works individually or in a group along a conveyor, bagger operation or table to sort, wrap, inspect and package finished products.
  • Assembles folds and tapes cartons, inserts or boxes into which product is to be placed.
  • Weighs scrap and documents the results.
  • Bags or boxes product by hand, sort products that are obviously broken or imperfect and places in proper scrap container.
  • Inspects candy visually to ensure proper color and wrap is maintained.
  • Dates and labels cartons when necessary.
  • Cleans walls, windows, partitions, sinks and doors by sweeping, scrubbing, washing, waxing and dusting throughout the facility.
  • Picks up string, sticks, slip sheets, pallets, cardboard, and other debris by hand (including outside).
  • Cleans manufacturing areas as directed including various production accessories by hand.
  • Uses container washer to clean utensils, rework containers, and other accessories.
  • Follows all Spangler Candy safety/sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Supports the organization’s commitment to ensure that our food safety and quality plans conform to all regulatory requirements and with food quality and safety requirements of our customers and report any problems or potential problems observed concerning food safety and quality to Supervision immediately.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Records scrap and other production data as required.
  • Advises supervisor of packing problems or material needs.
  • Performs and completes other work as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of High School education.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Good vision, color vision, hearing, speaking and finger dexterity skills as well as ability to perform close work.  Ability to work under time pressure, work rapidly for long periods, sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, climb, lift and/or carry up to approximately 48 lbs.

MINIMUM MENTAL OR COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read, write, complete basic math activities and follow instructions.  Ability to draw conclusions from a visual and/or physical inspection of products along with the ability to weigh/measure material and report production information.

WORK DEVICES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT

Scales, utility knives, gloves, code daters, container washer, hand tapers, brooms, sealer, and required PPE.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Assembly line type work with some exposure to dust, dirt, vibrations, noise and cramped areas.  Occasionally exposed to burns, cuts, falls, pinch points and back strain.
