Job Description

A Day in the Life 

Environmental Services is front line infection prevention responsible for performing services in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment, achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. This position will be Cross-trained to independently and competently perform in two or more identified areas(s) based on shift and have completed at least six months of service in Munson Medical’s Environmental Services Department.   

  • Standing and walking much of the day. May require bending, stretching, climbing ladders, lifting, pulling and pushing.   
  • Use of products that are potentially harmful if used improperly. Must follow all manufacturers’ instructions on chemical dilution and usage of products.  
  • Gloves, goggles, face shield, gown, mask, and hardhat must be worn as situation warrants and defined in the Safety Standard Act. Must follow all department, hospital and regulatory agency guidelines.  
  • Disinfect/clean assigned areas as per the Environmental Services procedures developed to control the growth of microorganisms. 
  • Meet the quality expectations of the department including maintaining under 45 min turn times with dismissal turnover cleaning and maintain a high touch cleaning compliancy rate of 70% or higher. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in: 
    • Dismissal Cleaning  
    • Behavioral Health 
    •  Isolation Terminal Clean 
    • Waste Management  
  • Prepare patient rooms for new admissions by staging the room in an aesthetically pleasing way. 
  • Remove trash/recycling/Confidential (HIPPIA) information and soiled linen from floors using utility cart. Replace sharps container in patient rooms, procedure rooms, and soiled utility rooms. 
  • Transport furniture, equipment, clean linen and supplies.  
  • Maintains cleaning cart(s), supplies and equipment evidence by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion.  
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment. 
Qualifications

What’s Required  

  • 6 months of hospital environmental service/housekeeping experience 

What’s Preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED
