How much do consumer protection attorney jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for consumer protection attorney in Michigan is $135,694.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $88,000.00 and $153,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a Consumer Protection Attorney do?

A Consumer Protection Attorney advocates for individuals against unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent business practices. They help clients with issues such as false advertising, predatory lending, identity theft, and illegal debt collection. These attorneys may file lawsuits, negotiate settlements, or work with government agencies to enforce consumer protection laws. Their goal is to ensure fair treatment and hold businesses accountable for misconduct.

How much do consumer rights lawyers make?

Consumer protection attorneys typically earn a median annual salary of around $70,000 to $120,000, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of cases handled. Senior attorneys or those working in large firms may earn higher salaries, and some may also receive bonuses or contingency fees based on case outcomes.

How to make $500,000 as a lawyer?

A consumer protection attorney can earn $500,000 by gaining extensive experience, specializing in high-demand areas, and working in large firms or private practice with high-value cases. Building a strong reputation, developing specialized skills, and taking on complex litigation can also increase earning potential over time.

Do lawyers make $500,000 a year?

Consumer protection attorneys, like other lawyers, can earn high salaries, but making $500,000 annually is uncommon and typically reserved for experienced attorneys in large firms, specialized fields, or with significant seniority. Most lawyers earn less, with median salaries varying based on location, experience, and practice setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Consumer Protection Attorney position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consumer Protection Attorney, you need a law degree, state bar admission, in-depth knowledge of consumer protection statutes, and strong litigation skills. Familiarity with legal research platforms like Westlaw or LexisNexis, as well as relevant certifications in consumer protection law, is typically required. Excellent analytical thinking, negotiation abilities, and clear communication are vital for building cases and working with clients. These skills enable attorneys to effectively advocate for consumers, ensure compliance, and achieve favorable outcomes in complex legal matters.

What is the highest paid type of attorney?

In general, corporate attorneys, especially those working in mergers and acquisitions or securities law, tend to be among the highest paid attorneys. Consumer protection attorneys typically earn less than specialized corporate or intellectual property attorneys, but salaries can vary based on experience, location, and employer size.

What are some common challenges faced by Consumer Protection Attorneys in their daily work?

Consumer Protection Attorneys often encounter challenges such as keeping up with evolving regulations, managing a high caseload, and dealing with aggressive corporate legal teams. They must balance thorough case investigation and research with tight deadlines and limited resources. Effective communication with clients—who may be stressed or unfamiliar with legal processes—is essential. Navigating these challenges requires attention to detail, persistence, and strong organizational skills, but overcoming them can be highly rewarding as you advocate for consumer rights and justice.
